A tory is told of ji game of po- ker that moved .he capital of ).- Ic.'iia. It waj at the tucm ra ! winter session at Ynnkto::, vi- ; several towns were pitted again.-?, j one another as to which should mj- j cuie tho coveted honor. It hat- . pc-ned that lo towns were tied on the vote, and a single addi tional buliot -.vould have secured the prize for either. Jt was in this condition of affairs that a jol was t)ut up to secure the MiiHe lacking vote by inveigling a po-1 her loving member into a game of draw. There were four in the party three from one ot the rival towns, and the proposed victim from the other. The game y.'ks in an upper room of a hotel, and the play was high and furious, jus the partici pants had full purses. The great jame was after awhile opened with 100 in the pot. It had been agreed to give the victim a fine hand and to give one of the other three conspirators a hand that would be it it. He got the hand, looked at it, looked at it, and said, as he raised the ante: "It will take S200 to draw cards." The other two conspirators passed out and the victim raised $200. They see-sawed until 2,000 was up, when the drew. The conspirators drew one card to four kinsrs. The victim hesitated, and finally drew three. Then the bet ting began and did not stop until 82,000 more was on the table. Then the conspirator made his side even and said: "I am out of money, but I'll raise you 1G0 acres of land in Bea dle county. No, I won't either, but I'll tell you what I will do I'll bet3rou my vote on the capital." "Done !" said the victim, and tho bauds were spread out. Tho conspirator had four kings and reached for the pot. "Hold on !" said the victim, as I he laid down four aces. "Your vote wdl brincr the capital to Bis- marck," and it did. j His hand had been a queen-full jon aces, and he discarded tho j queens, but where he got the aces nobodv could tell.
