The pcttal card is a device co-i-cocted by very small men to ,:; a few cents of postage per ann. :: at the expense cf hundreds of dil lars lost through unbusiness like methods. Tt is the instrument of the coward and the refuse of dead beats. Good men use it while they despise it, and mean men nat urally take to and perpetuate it. For two cents any ordinary busi ness matter, intelligently elaborat ed and concealed from the im pertinent gaze of post oflice offi cials and subordinates, can be carried from one side of the. con tinent to the other; yet to save one small copper cent, alleged business men continue to write cramped and unintelligible mes sages on postal cards that cither contain requests for which, in all good conscience, a postage stamp should be inclosed, or are so un satisfactor or unfileablc that they inevitably find their way to that convenient receptacle of all nuis ances, the office waste basket. A., 13. & Co. advertise a specialty in a trade paper, the next mail that sweeps from the ndrth, east, south or west brings them a flood of postal cards, asking prices, dis counts, etc. Not a word or indi cation on the postal card as to the business standing of the inquirer. Not a postage stamp attached or inclosed for a reply. No room for a courteous or businesslike request. Simply a dirty little postal card and a thoughtless or impertinent demand. The postal, card in bus iness is a tattling interloper. It is a traveling nuisance. It has a seedy and sneaking appearance. It has the look of the man that asks the loan of 10 cents until to morrow. Its breath is bad. Kick it out. Side saddles arc slowhy going out of fashion in England, and the man fashion way of riding horses is being adopted by man' of the ladies. The interstate commerce com mission, about which very little is heard now a -day, will remain in Washington until January 1. The appropriation of 100,000 for its first year's work has all been ex pended, and not half the neces sary work has been done. The commission were very anxious to go to California this fall to hear some important cases, but could not go on account of the expenso involved. The commission has ten clerks now, but has pressing need for fifty. An aimronriation of 200,000 will be asked for the work of the next fiscal year. It is whispered with some resonance and reverberance in dramatic cir cles that the interstate commerce law is being quietly knocked to flinders by the agents of a bisr trunk line, and that special rates may be obtained by a manager with a pull for almost any tour west. The facts are not easy to get hold of, but there is an African of titanic and herculeau propor tions somewhere in the fence. Darbys Propliylactie Final. Use "t in every sick room. A New York dispatch, alluding to the supreme court decision ajrainst the anarchists, says: "Where there was one anarckist yesterday there are thousands to day." That is nonsense, ine man who has lost his last chance always receives an accession of pity and sympathy. That is merely a temnorarv emotion which gives place shortly to sober reason. Many persons will express com passion for anarchists during the next few days who will subse quently fully approve the vidica tion of law and order. Calm second thought will accept their fate as a wholesome warning. IMITATOItS A2TC) IMPOSTORS. It is an ab surdity to speak of them in thejsame category as the genuine and original porous plaster. Their pretensions are unfounded, their vaunted merit unsupported by facts, their alleged superiority to or equality with All cock's a false pretence.
