The British ship city of York cleared yesterday for Qaeenstown, with G0.OG0 bus. wheat, worth 10, 291. At the Methodist church, to-day, class meeting at 10 a. ji. Preaching at 11a.m. Subject: "Conditions of Fruitfuluess." There will be services in the Swedish Lutheran church, Upper Astoria to day at 10 a. m. All Scandinavians invited to attend. At Ross' opera house next Thurs day, Friday and Saturday evenings will appear Edwin Thorne and his company in popular plays. It seems that Hamilton street may yet be a street, as it is stated a suit will shortly be instituted in the U. S. court by the property owners along its line to have it so decreed. For fir logs SG.59 is now being paid at the camp: it is thought the present supply will not last longer than February 1st: the Knappton mill has a contract that will run it to March 1st At a recent meeting of M. E. min isters at Portland it was decided to build a hospital in that city under the auspices of the M. E. church, to cost about 30,000. The site will be selected and operations begun on the 21st inst. A high tide and a west wind made the green waves run high yesterday. Half way across, a radiant scarf of shifting rainbows played up and down all the afternoon", and the sea gulls screamed and swooped around the vessels anchored in the stream. The Oregon sailed yesterday with the officers and the greater part of the artillery corp3 till recently at Fort Canby, where is left a detach ment in charge of a sergeant. It is thought probable that that detach ment will shortly be relieved by an equal number of infantry. The chorus class of this place num bering 05 voices, assisted by the R. B. George Co., and G3 little ladies with 05 little dolls will give a concert ' in Ross' opera house next Wednes day ovening,November 9th. Admission only 59 cents, children 25 cents. Doors open at 7, concert at 8. Sometime ago the firm of Prael Bros, of this city made an assign ment. Sinco then they have energet ically gone to work and are paying up every dollar or claims against them, nor will they rest content till the last C2nt of indebtedness is paid. Honorable action and worthy of com mendation. There will bo a business men's meeting at Ross' opera house to-morrow evening to discuss the proposed constitutional amendments. Good speakers, including local talent, will address the audience. A general in vitation is extended. The Western Amateur band will furnish music on the occasion. Attention No. OncV. A hurricane was experienced on Wednesday and the steamer shipped a number of tremendous seas. Five steerage passengers wore injured. During an interview Gonld said that he suffered no inconvenience from the storm. A TEMtlllLE EXPLOSION. Spiungfield, III., Nov. 5. A ter rible explosion of molten steel oc cured this morning at the works of the Springfield iron company. The entire city was shaken up by the fore of the explosion and the win dows rattled as though from an earth quake. Four tons of liquid metal were allowed to flow into the wet re ceptacle and a frightful explosion en sued. It is reported that twenty men were burned. The officers in charge are reticent and desire to have all accounts of the matter suppressed. JOHN L. INDIGNANT. Qceenstowx, Nov. 5. John L. Sullivan expressed himself as very indignant at the boastful language used by Kilrain and 3IitchelI. He says he wants to fight both of them in the same ring. He believes that Smith is a better man than Kilrain and declares he means to return to America as champion of the world or die. DEN THE KEPOKT. St. Lock, Nov. 5. Chief Bushy head and other officials of the Chero kee nation havo sent a message to the local paper denying that there is any trouble at Tahlequah and claim ing that false reports are being sent out to injure the nation and the place. CLAIM BELLE IN COURT. San Francisco, Nov. 5. Clara Belle McDonald was arraigned this morning on a charge of attempting to murder, her father-in-law, R. H. Mc Donald and was given until Monday to plead. THE GOVERNOR ON TOP. Concord, N. H., Nov. 5.--Gov. Sawyer this morning vetoed the bill entitled, "An Act regulating freights and fares on railroads and providing for compensation.'' The dissenting stockholders in the case of the rail- roau leases ana tne legislature en deavored to pass the railroad bill over the governor's veto but failed and at 11 o'clock the governor ad journed the legislature. STILL AITER AC'ICERMAN. New York, Nov. 5. The American Exchange National bank have ob tained an attachment against Acker man of California, in a suit to recover 15,715 on a note executed by T. R. Rosenthal Sc Co. and endorsed by de fendants. They have also attached the property of the makers of the note. X.EPR031' IN PniLIDEIiPniA. Philadelphia, Nov. 5. The board of health has discovered that two well developed cases of leprosy exist in this city, but owing to the obsti nacy of the German physicians, un der whose care they are, they cannot be located. a referee's opinion. New York, Nov. 5. The referee's opinion in regard to the Fifth ward election for inspectorship, was made public this "morning. He favors the United Labor party to whom the inspectorship was awarded. will make a report. Washington, D. C, Nov. S. The Pacific railway commission had a conference with the president this af ternoon in regard to the affairs of the subsidized railways and will soon report thereon. TnE epidemic subsiding. Jacksonville, Fla., Nov. 5. There was only one new case of yellow fever at Tampa yesterday, and three deaths. Dr. Hall predicts that the epidemic will be over there within ten days. MUST WEAR PRISON GARB. Dublin, Nov. f. The Tnllamore prison authorities have ordered that William O'Brien sball wear the uni form prescribed by the regulations for convicts, TnE CHICAGO ANARCHISTS. Chicago, Nov. 5. It is stated to day that anarchist Lingg will refuse to sign any petition for executive clemency. It is also slated that the attorneygeneral gave instructions this morning to the clerks of the criminal courts to prepare no calendars for next week. This means that there will be no courts in anticipation of the execution. Judge Frank Baker, who is now sitting in the criminal court, signed a petition for commuta tion this morning. Now that there seem to ba a stampede iu the direc tion of commutation of the sentence against the anarchists it may be well to mention what effect it already has had iu a very important section of the cemmunity: In the police force already a feeling akin to dismay has arisen and it is believed that the dis content will find some strong means of expression. Next Tuesday's Election. Next Tuesday's election will be conducted exactly like a general election. The same judges and clerks appointed by the county court to serve for two years, will officiate. If, when the polls are opened, it be found that a vacancy exists in nuy precinct, either of judge or clerk, it shall be the duty of the electors present to fill such vacancy. A duly qualified voter can cast his ballot at any poll ing place in the state. Upon the tickets o the three pro posed amendments to be voted on first, the prohibitory liquor amend ment: second, the one empowering the legislature to regulate the salaries of the state officers; and third, chang ing the time of the general election from Juno to November there shall be written or printed, first, "Prohibi tory Amendment;" second "Amend ment to Salaries of State Officers;" and third, "Amendment to Time of Holding General Elections," with "yes" or "no" after each, ns the voter wishes.
