A traveler once put up for the night with a simple-minded old couple in a lonely farm house.. As he rode up :o the door he heard the old lady say. in a tone of deep convictien: "There! I knowed somebody'd come before night, for I dropped my fork on the floor this morning, and it stuck straight up. Then 1 dropped the dishcloth at noon another sure sign of com pany." In entering the house the visitor struck his foot against the step and came near ialling. "Ah!" said the old lady quiokly, "which toe did you stub, the right or the left?" "The riglu," was the reply. "That's good; it's a sure sign you're going where you're wanted. Pa, shoo that rooster off the fence. If he crows there it will rain be fore morning." Don't you remember, Tommy, that you dreamed of finding a nest of hen's eggs last night? I told you then that you'd find some money be fore a week." A young woman was washing on a porch at the back of the house, and the old lady suddenly cried eut: "There, there, Susan; if vou haven't splashed soapsuds all over the front of your dress! And if you don't get a drunken husband for it I'm wonderfully mistaken. I've known that sign to come true often and often. But you can keep it from coming true by hang ing all the clothes on the line wronir side out, and you'd better do it" So Susan did, as the traveler noticed to his great amusement.
