The First Sign j Of failing health, whether in the form ol Night Sweats and Nervousness, or in a sense of General Weariness and Loss ol Appetite, should suggest the use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. This preparation is most effective for giving tone and strength to tho enfeehled system, pro- noting tho digestion and assimilation of food, restoring tho nervous forces to their normal condition, and for purify? i ing, enriching, and vitalizing tho blood. Failing Health. ness. I tried various remedies pre scribed by different physicians, but became so weak that I could not go up stairs without stopping to rest. My friend3 recommended me to try Ayer's Sarsaparilla, which I did, and I am now as healthy and strong as ever. Mrs. E. L. "Williams, Alexandria, Minn. I Have used Ayer's Sarsaparilla, in my family, for Scrofula, and know, if it is taken faithfully, that it will thoroughly eradicate this terrible disease. I have also prescribed it as iftonic, as well as an alterative,-md must say that I honestly believe it to be tho best blood medicine ever compounded. "V. F. Fowler, M. D., D. D. S., Greenville, Tenn. Dyspepsia- Cured. It would be impossible for mo to de scribe what I suffered from Indigestion and Headache up to the time I began taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla. I was under the care of various physicians, and tried a great many kinds of medicines, but never obtained more than temporary re lief. After taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla for a- short time, my headache disap peared, and my stomach performed its duties more perfectly. To-day my health is completely restored. Mary Harley, Springheld, Mass. I have been greatly benefited by the prompt use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. It tones and invigorates the system, regu lates the action of the digestive and assimilative organs, and vitalizes the blood. It is, without doubt, the most reliable blood purifier yet discovered. H. Goods Delivered Ail Over the City. The Highest Price Paid for Junk, A Complaint From tho Nasel. Nasel, Oct. 3, 1837. Editor Asteriax: "Will you please insert the fol lowing in The Astoriax, thereby complying with the wishes of many "citizens of this community? On Sunday, Sept. 25th, Henrian .Taen, a Frenchman, attempted to murJer Matthew and John Bruntz, two brothers and pioneer settlers along the river. It seems that a quarrel arose regarding the right of Jacn to drive astakeonBruntz's land to make fast a fishing net, whereupon .Taen jumped into his boat, raised his gun loaded with buckshot, and deliberately fired one barrel at Matthew, several of the shots piercing his jumperabout the breast, without doing him any injury, it being a remarkably nar row escape. The brother then turned to run 'when the assassin fired the other barrel at the other brother, the shots taking effect in h3b back, making serious and per haps mortal wounds, four of the shots penetrating one lung, and one shot the other. Special con stable Feldbyrg arrested the Frenchman and brought him to.the sheriff at Oysterville immediately, Mr. Feldburg fearing that his pris oner would be taken from him and lynched, serious threats having been made to that'effect. A preliminary trial was held be fore justice Bowen, the prisoner's counsel, one of Astoria's legal lights, attempting to put the value of human life at the nominal sum of 300 by securing his release. upon furnishing a bond for that amount. That was too ridiculous, however, to be considered at all, and Justice Bowery finally admitted the pris oner to 2,000 bail to await the trial in the district court. Justice Bowen plainly committed an error by admitting hitn to bail at all. The offoiise was not bailable. At the time of the trial the victim was lingering between life and death, ami the wounds wen pro nounced mortal by the doctor the day previous. No bail should have bt'Mn allowed until results of the injury were known. At pres ent, however, there are soiup slight hopes of recovery, though a re Iapseinay occur at any time. Tln Bruntz brothers are peaceable, in offensive citizens, while it has bur ly been ascertained that their at tempted murderer is a hard cus tomer, he having threatened the lives of several parties in the com-munit-. Sec. 778, code of "Wash ington, reads: "Every person charged with an offence, except murder in the first degree, may be bailed 03 sufficient sureties," etc. That seems plain that the prisoner should not have been admitted to bail. This mockery of justice has created quite an indignation in this community, and should the assassin be able to furnish suffi cient sureties and make his appear ance here, it is feared an indignant people will give him a very warm reception. Yours very respectfully, O.Z. WRENCHED HIS BACK. Lyxdoxville, Oblbans Co., N.Y.) April 2, 1BS5. ) i About a year ago, I imprudently stepped off tho Hudson Hirer cars while they vere in motion. In try ing to save xnyself from a fearful fall I wrenched my back terribly. The next day I could not walk, and I suf fered pain from my neck to my heels. Various applications were made, but nothing which was done abated my suffering. Being anxious to get up and attend to business, I deter mined to place three Allcock's Por ous Plasters, one above the other, on my back. In about an hour and a half they caused considerable itch ng. The pain and soreness sens ibly decreased, and I rested pretty well that night The next morning the itching began to be quite severe under the plasters. To getjsome re lief, I had my back well rubbed crossways over tho Plasters. I was surprised within two hours after wards to find the pain and soreness almost gone. I stayed in bed that day; and the morning afterwards I got up and attended to business. O. Y. Pjettman. The O. R. & N. and the North ern Pacific have announced a tar iff bn grain of 6.50 per ton on all points on the Spokane & Palouse and on the Columbia & Palouse branches to Portland. At a recent reunion of the sol diers of the blue and gray at Bcardstown, Kentucky, judge Ful ton, an ex-confederate, used the following language: "It is a rare occurrence in the history of a hu man affairs for the followers of a lost cause to meet in annual re union to celebrate the glories of their defeat, and sing the preans, not ol victory, but of failure, and to exhibit with pardonable pride the troDhies of their disaster and so it is, soldiers of the Orphan Bri-. gade, paradoxical as it may seem, while winning you have lost, while losing you have won.
