When the eyes become weak, and the lids inflamed and sore, it is an evidence that the system has become disordered by Scrofula, for which Ayer's Sarsaparilla is the best known remedy. Scrofula, which produced a painful in flammation in my eyes, caused me much suffering for a number of years. By the advice of a physician I commenced taking Ayer's Sarsaparilla. After using this medicine a short time I was completely Cured My eyes are now in a splendid condi tion, and I am as well and strong as ever. Mrs. "William Gage, Concord, N. H. For a number of years I was troubled with a humor in my eyes, and was unable to obtain any relief until I commenced using Ayer's Sarsaparilla. This medi cine has effected a complete cure, and I believe it -to be the best of blood puri fiers. C. E. Upton, Nashua, N. H. From childhood, and until with a few months, I have been afflicted with Weak and Soro Eyesv I have used for these complaints, with beneficial results, Ayer's Sarsaparilla, and consider it a great blood purifier. Mrs. C. Phillips, Glover, Vt. I suffered for a year with inflamma tion in my left eye. Three ulcers formed on the ball, depriving moof sight, and causing great pain. After trying many other remedies, to no purpose, I was final ly induced to use Ayer's Sarsaparilla. By Taking three bottles of this medicine I have been entirely cured. My sight has been re stored, and there is no sign of inflamma tion, sore, or ulcer in my eye. Ivudal T. Bowen, Sujar Tree Kuige, umo. My daughter, ten years old, was afflict ed with Scrofulous Sore Eyes. During the last two years she never saw light of any kind. "Physicians cf the highest standing exerted their skill, but with no Sermanentr success. On the reoominon ation of a friend I purchased a bottle of Ayer's Sarsaparilla, which my daughter commenced taking. Before she had iism 1 the third bottle licr sight was restored. Her cure is complete. "W. E. Suther land, Evangelist, Shelby City, Ky. if Ayer's Sarsaparilla, Prepared by Dr. J. C. Ayto & Co., Lowell, Mitts. Bold by all Druggists. Price ?l ; six botilos, $o. One gratifying result of the su preme court's decision that the anarchist murderers must hang is to be observed in the efforts of their sympathizers to save their lives. The anarchist organization that was almost destroyed after the Haymarket riot is believed to be as strong as ever. It then con sisted of over 3,000 men practiced in weekly and even nightly drills. It is probably no less strong at the present time. Yet there is a vast difference in the methods of agita tion then and now. There is no talk at present of blood and dynamite. There is no advice shouted from the platforms" of public meetings for the working man to arm himself and begin the new revolution by an indiscrimi nate slaughter of capitalistic Hell hounds. The -making of bombs is not explained in public now. The advice to save up money to buy a pistol to shoot a policeman is not heard. "Whatever incendiary plans they may have concocted are spread in secret. It is evident that the leaders have learned the lesson of the law. They cannot plot murder and es cape the consequences of their acts when the plots are carried out. Tlfts is the lesson that the law was meant to teach; the vigor with which it has been executed will save much bloodsjied. The anarchist leaders are probably plotting in secret what they ad vised openly two years ago. They are free to plot. JThev may plan anything, from the -social revolu tion to the murder of the officials and the jury that brought the ver dict of death against their seven companions. But the moment they attempt to put their designs into execution they will find the people, and the law that the peo ple have made, strong enough to crush them, as it has crushed their predecessors. There is freedom to think and believe anything in this country, but there is no" free dom to injure others. The anarchists and their counsel are not to be blamed for taking every legal means to save their condemned comrades. The effort to appeal to the United States su preme court and the governor is perfectly legal. The appeal in both cases is hopeless. The su preme court cannot interfere with the decree of the state court in a criminal trial without usurping au thority that never belonged to it. The, governor has the power to commute the sentences, but he is not likely to interfere in a case that has been so carefully consid ered. But if the anarchists at tempt to get by violence the clem ency they fail to secure by legal means, the gallows will bear more fruit than is now in prospect. To be vain is rather a mark of humility than of pride. Vain men delight in telling what honors have been done them, what great company they have kept, and the like; by which they plainly con fess that these honors were more than their due, and such as their rriends would not believe if they had not been told. Whereas a man truly proud thinks the great est honors below his merits, aud consequently scorns to boast. We, therefore, deliAeu as a maxim, that whoever desires the character of a proud man ought to conceal his vanity. Ayer's Sarsaparilla contains no harmful ingredients, and is the best blood purifier. Annihilating $10,000,000 a Month. About $70,000,000 wortlf of property have been annihilated in the United States thus far in the peaceful year of our Lord 1887 not by anarchists nor riotous strik ers, but by fires alone. This coun try is so much the poorer, ancf it is a very pretty sum. The prospects are that the remaining three months will swell the total draft upon the accumulations of the good people of this country to the extent of at least $100,000,000. Ayer's Hair Vigor keeps the hair fresh and bright. It restores a natural color to faded and gray hair, and renders it pliant and glossy. The 'Volunteer has a racing crew of thirty-seven men and three officers. Outside Salmon Buns. A few days ago, says the Coos Bay Neics, Thomas Reed, of Gard iner, passed through Marshfield on his way to San Francisco. From him it is learned that the run of salmon on the Umpqua has been verv light up to the present this season. When he left Al Reed's cannery had not 1,000 cases put up, while last year at the same time over 4,500 cases had been handled. The ran on the Siuslaw has also been light, and so has the run on the Coquille. While on the bay fish have been scarce, as compared with other years, yet it is a fact that more salmon have been canned here this fall than on any two of the rivers mentioned. A commercial traveler was in troduced to a confrere one day, and not hearing his name distinct ly, remarked: "I beg yonr par don, sir, but I didn't catch your name." "But ray name is a very hard one to catch," replied the other; "perhaps it is the hardest name you ever heard." "Hardest name I ever heard! 111 bet you a dozen of wine that my name is harder," replied the first speak er. "All right," said the other, "my name is Stone Thomas Stone. Stone is hard enough, isn't it?" "Pretty hard!" ex claimed the challenger; "but my name is spelled H-a-r-d-e-r, and 1 bet my name was Harder." Mr. Stone stumped up like a man. A vender of hoop skirts was ex tolling his wares in the presence of a customer's husband. "Jo lady should be without one of these skirts," said the shopman. "Well, of course not,' drylv responded the husband, who was something of a wag, "she should be within it. The new water works just com pleted at Mobile, Ala., cost the city $685,000, and' has a capacity of 30,000,000 a day from Clear creek and an auxiliary supply of 60,000,000 from Red creek, 'both within ten miles of the cttv. The necessary instructions have been issued to the local land officials in the matter of the restor ation to settlement of the North ern Pacific indemnity lands. About nine million acres are in volved. Some rich men keep cross dogs around their house so that the hungry poor who stop to "get a bite" may get it outside the door. A locomotive on the Staten Isl and Rapid Transit railroad has killed five persons in six weeks. Removing a Serious Obstruction Gently. Dynamite and giant powder might answer admirably to remove obstructions from Ilell Gate In East River New York, but explosive measures in medication are ever attended with disastrous consequences. For instance, the bowels cannot be violently drenched with safety, nor is there the slightest neces sity for so doing. On the contrary, it is most unwise. None but the purblind adherents of antiquated theories in medicine advise or sanction such a course. To weaken thein-testlnes-the effect of drastic purgation is to compromise the health of the entire sys tem. With Hosteller's Stomach Bitters, on the other hand, the bowels are relaxed, not by a convulsion of nature approximating to an eruption of Mt, Popocatapetl, but gradu ally, beneficially, without wrenching or drenching. The liver and stomach, as well as the bowels, arc toned and benefitted by it A man is apt to feel pretty large and concentric when the rpeople elect him governor, and yet IffMl A f w " fr A lrvtr .
