It floundered about considerable, and caused the occupants of the boat to have some uneasiness as to their safety, but it was finely landed on the flats abreast of town, and when the water receded from it, it died. Upon inspection, it proved to be fifteen feet in length, and was pro vided with a mouth large enough to swallow a man. Its teeth were about two inches in length and very formidable. Those in author ity to speak pronounced it a man eater, the first one ever known in northern latitudes. Its teeth sold for 52 each. Pacific Journal. On Shoalwater Bay, The .foxirnal heard last week that the men at the North River cannery had struck and also those at Bay Center. The statement has little truth. A fewfishermen at North river heard that a strike was in progress at Seaborg's and quit work for a day or two. There had been no strike atBay Center, however, but the price of fish was raised to 40jind 60 cents,,rand fso soon as the was known the men at North river began work at that price, and no future trouble is an ticipated. Fish are running much better, the boats averaging from seven to twenty each. Pacific Journal. Herbert Corliss killed a cougar on Milton creek on Friday last that measured ten feet from tip to tip.
