News received to-day from the country aiound Dahlonega, Ga., in Union, Lumpkin, Dawson and Forsythe counties is to the effect that the moonshiners are thoroughly aroused., and have made up their minds to run all informers out of the country. . Several raids have recently been made by revenue agents, in which the officers es caped under, deadly fire from their concealed enemies. Chester town district, in Lumpkin district, is one of the most desperate re treats of the moonshiners, having long been under their control. Half a dozen arrests made there within the last two weeks have led to the suspicion that one of their own members must be giv ing the seeret away. Suspicion finally rested upon James Ash, who owns a small farm. Late on Saturday night Ash was called to his door, and at once found him self surrounded by a dozen dis guised men. They beat him over the head with their pistols until he was knocked senseless and fell to theground. He was then car ried to a neighboring grove, stripped, tied to a tree and lashed most unmercifully. The next day, Sunday, ha was found there by people on their way to church. His friends, satisfied that the next visit meant death, removed him and his family to Dahlonega, where he lies in a critical condi tion. Land Notice. U. S. W. T. Burnev, Register. B; F. Burcii, Receiver. The Abruzzi Story of Creation. After the animals were created they thanked God for it, and asked what their fate was to be. When they learned that they were to labor and suffer for twenty years they each prayed to livo a shorter time, and ten years were deducted in the esse of the ass, the dog aud the ape. When man was created and learned that he was to live but twenty years, he begged hard for a hundred, and finally the Creator gave him the thirty years which the animals just named had refused. Hence man's first twen ty years are his happy ones; then come labor and the ass's ten years; afterward childreu and domestic cares, and the ten years of the dog's life; at last the children marry and abandon their father, and then come the ape's ten years. "Alter fifty what more "is life to thee? He who has had, has had." In these days it would not be strange if some one adulterated the milk in the cocoanut. JPuck. Removing a Serious Obstruction Gently. Dynamite and giant powder might answer admirably to remove obstructions from Hell Gate In East River New York, but explosive measures in medication are ever attended with disastrous consequences. For instance, tho bowels cannot be violently drenched with safety, nor ls there the slightest neces sity for so doing. On tho contrary, it is most unwiso. None but the purblind adherents of antiquated theories in medicine advise or sanction such a course. To weaken the in testines the effect of drastic purgation is to compromise the health of the entire sys tem, with Hosteler's Stomach Bitters, on the other hand, the bowels are relaxed, not by a convulsion of nature- approximating to an eruption of ML Popoeatapetl, but gradu ally, beneficially, without wrenching or drenching. The liver and stomach, as well as the bowels, are toned and benefitted by It Trav Johnson. Trav Johnson is dead. After many months of suffering, cared for and nursed by a loving and de voted wife, the summons came at last and Trav has been released of his earthlv pains. He died at the home of his brother, in Forest Grove, Oregon, where he had been taken from Bellevue but a few days ago.- For many years, dating back to the early nines, Trav resided on the Pacific coast. He was the first sheriff of Alturas county, being elected to that office in 1865. He resided in Canyon City, Oregon, when Joaquin Miller was probate judge there, and durinc: the exciting days of Walla "Walla, when that town was the headquarters for all the north west country, he was a conspicuous figure among the many there. In the early days of Idaho City and the Boise Basin Trav Johnson was well known, and later on, when the White Pine and Reese river excitements of Nevada sprung up, the restless spirit of Trav carried him onward with the rushing tide of humanity to the found Eldo rados. For a number of years he resided in Eureka, Nevada, hold ing the office of deputy sheriff and constable, and there met the woman who has always proved his faithful and devoted wife. While living in Eureka he received a pistol shot wound from the hands of a man named Nixon, from the effects of which he never full re covered, and which eventually brought him to his grave. Poor Trav, he has found his long rest in an eternal slumber beneath the ever grassy sod of Oregon. Poace to his memory. JCetcium Kvy stone. Washington, St. 21. Gov. For the last year I could not take a drink of cold water nor eat any meat without vomiting it up. My life was a misery. I had had recommended Simmons Liver Regulator, of which I am now taking the second bottle, and the fact is that words cannot express tike relief I feel. My appetite is very good, and I digest everything thoroughly. I sleep well now, and I used to be very restless. I am flesh ing up fast; good strong food and Simmons Liver Regulator have done it all.
