In ths confusion of circumstances all names could not be learned, but it appears that a Mr. and Mrs. John son had been divorced and the woman had gone to living with a man by the name of Upton. On Sunday Jolison procured a pistol and avowed his intention of killing the couple. lie went to Clatska nine to the house of Upton, and, laising a row, drew his revolver aud shot Upton, once through the jaws from one side of the face to the other; the other bullet made a superficial wound of no conse quence, lie then placed the weapon to the woman's head and pulled the trigger; it held fire. Then Upton scuttled with him, and getting hold of the revolver, drew aim and shot Johnson dead. Up ton was brought as far as St. Hel ens yesterday for medical aid, and he is thought to be in a fair way of recovery. JSTeics, .9. Blue ffews Prom Alaska. Sax Francisco, Aug. S. J. R Daggett, president of the McCol lam Fishing and Trading company, has returned from Alaska. He states that when he left, July 21, the outlook for a favorable sea son's work in sealing, cod fishing and salmon packing was anything but flattering. It was hoped at the beginning of this season that the schooners would catch about 100,000 codfish each, but the sea son was within two weeks of being closed when Mr. Daggett left, and the schooner Arayo reported but 45,000, the Dashing Wave G0,000, and the Isabella 05,000. None of the others had been heard from. Salmon did not run for several weeks after the usual time of the opening of the canning season, and the sealers that called at Pi rate cove all reported from 1 50 to 450 seals except the Penelope, which had 1,300.
