Abandoning the Trail.
The national cattle trail is aban
doned; Never again in the histo
ry of the United States will great
herds of Texas cattle be driven
northward through Colorado to
"Wyoming and Montana. Home
steads and pre-emptions are taking
the place of the range, and the
cattlemen of Texas are finding
their progress northward impeded
by the fences, the farms, and the
cultivated fields of farmers.
This is shown by the fact that
70,000 cattle now on the trail have
been stopped, and within a few
days they will be turned back to
ward Texas. It would be possi
ble this year to get through, not
withstanding so much of the coun
try has been taken up; but there
is no market in the northwest for
cattle, and so the herds are turned
back. But this is abandonment "of
the trail for next year. Regard
less of whether there is or is not a
market in the northwest, the trail
will then be closed by the fences
of the settlers.
This is revolution in the cattle
business. It forces upon the at
tention of every western man the
consideration of the rapid settle
ment of the plains. Only a few
years ago there was hardly anyone
who believed that the plains
would in the lapse of only a few
years be so thickly settled as to
drive the eattle off of the range
and block the national trail. But
now we see this, and we can hard
ly dare to guess what the next few
years will bring forth in the chang
ing conditions of this western
country. Denver Republican.

TRIED
CRUCIBLE.
About twenty years ago Z discovered a Uttla

it cancer. I have tried a number of physician,
but without receiving any permanent bastst.
Among the number were one or two specialists.
The medlctae they applied was like lire to th
sore, cacalas latent palo. I saw a stattsust
in the papers telling what S. 3. S. had doas far
others similarly afflicted. I procured soma at
once. Before I had uied tho second bottla tha
neighbors could sotlco that my cancer was
healing up. Hy general health had bean bad
for two or three years Ihad a hacking coogfe
and spit blood continually. I had a aavara
pain In my breast. AfteraHng alx boUIea of
S.S.S. my cough left me and I grew stoatar
than I had been tor's everal years. My caacar
has healed over all but a little ipot about tfca
size of a half dime, and It ls rapidly disappear
