connected with the lynching of
I Oscar Kelty hr.s assumed an inter-
esting phase. JJetective om
Simmons, o has been employed
by the friends of law ana order in
Polk county, has effected some
startling developments. Detect
ive Simmons has discovered that
the tynching party came mainly
from Yamhill county, and has now
secured evidence enough, in his
opiuion, to convict twelve of the
participants. These arrests may
be made any time.
There continues to be much
talk here about the small catch of
salmon on the Columbia river.
Fears that the river is fished out
are daily expressed, and some say
that as the packers have, taken
about two million fish a year for
nearly twenty years, it is only
natural that the river should give
indication of failure. Owing to
the world-wide reputation oi the
Columbia river salmon, there is a
general regret that the supply
seems to be on the decline. fi.F.
