They Lynched Hong Di. Colusa, Cal., July 10.--At 9:20 o'clock this morning the jury gave a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree with imprisonment for life in the case of Hon? Di, the murderer of Mrs. Biuiou. When the reading of the verdict was finished pistols were drawn in court, and it was only with the greatest care that Hong Di was removed to jail. An immense mob gathered about the place, and all was excitement and uproar, 'fhey finally dispersed, with the probable intention of putting an end to Hong Di's life after dark. 9 P. m. The people are pouring into the city from all directions, all with the avowed intention of tak ing part in the convicted China- man's hanging. It is stated that the latter has Been removed from jail and is now in hiding. 12:40 a. m., "July 11. Hong Di was taken from the jail and hanged by the mob. When the address to the queen at the opening of the English royal courts was under considerations by the judges, one very eminent judge of appeal objected to the phrase " conscious as we are of all our shortcomings." " I am not con scious of shortcomings," he said, " and if I were I should not be so foolish as to say so;" whereupon a learned lord justice blandly ob served: "Suppose we say 'con scious as we are of each other's shortcomings.'
