Lynch Law in Indiana-
iNDiANAroLis, July 7. The ex
citement in the streets of Peru
during the afternoon and evening
was intense, and there was free
talk of taking Christianson from
jail and hanging hiin. Men drew
together in groups, and the .shoot
ing of the doctor and the punish
ment of Christianson formed the
sole topic of discussion. This
talk finally crystalized in thorough
and S3stcmatic preparations. At
12:15 this morning twenty-two
masked men appeared at the jail
and demanded the keys. The de
mand was refused and the mob
brokp down the large iron doors,
and in fifteen minutes the prisoner
was in their possession. He was
taken 011 a dead run down Broad
way to the bridge, crossing the
Wabash river, when he was twice
strung up, the first time without
the desired result, but the second
time his life was extinct. He died
at 12:45. The lynching was wit
nessed by about 1,000 people.
