Hi our stttfeoriiea agent.

San Francisco, June 13. Col.
C. F. Crocker, who returned from
a trip through Oregon on Saturday
last, stated to a renorter to-dav
that while in Portland he made
arrangements with the Terminal
company there, by which the South
ern Pacific would participate in
the union depot in that city with
the Oregon Railroad & Navigation
company and the Northern Pacific.
This Terminal company, intends
to construct -a railroad bridge over
the Willamette, as well as to orect
a handsome building to serve as a
union depot. Col. Crocker says
that the connection between the
ends of the California & Oregon
road will be finished during the
latter part of October next. The
gap is being bridged as quickly as
the present force will allow and
the company will, as soon as possi
ble, send an additional number of
men to work there. .
Col. Crocker also said the equp
ment and rolling stock of the line
from Ashland, Or., was -in excel
lent condition, but that iron rails
in one section of the road would be
replaced with steel rails, in order
to permit of fast time being made.
the Willamette Valley Narrow
Gauge is also to bo extended to
Portland, giving it an enttre
lengtn of thirty miles.
