ILWAOO INKLINGS.
Ilwaco, June 10, :87.
Probably there has been no so
ciable event that attracted so much
attention and engrossed the minds
of the people as the G. A. R. ball
last night. It was the first ball
given by Can by Post and it was
done to raise funds to build a hall
for the veterans of the late un
pleasantness to assemble and be
sociable. That beats all the bear
and fish story business with which
ye inhabitant of this place finds
plenty of time to relate and fird
grounds to anoint with expecto
rations. Fortunately this is a
sandy counfry. Prof. Sid Horn
-bad charge of the music and proved
equal to the occasion, the hall was
well filled, everyone appearing to
be happy and having a good time.
The receipts at the ticket office
were unusually satisfactory.
Ilwaco can boast of its pretty
girls and fine dancers. It was no
ticed that most of the girls and
young married ladies were dressed
in lawn and it was hard to tell one
from tother. It's a question this
morning whether that blonde mar
ried lady or tho brunette, single
lady was the best dancer. irour
correspondent had ample oppor
tunity to observe proceedings,
having on account of his inabil
ity to dance been assigned to an
out of the way corner.
A fine supper was spread on
the stage and it was noticeable
how much the chaplain and the
adjutant worked while the remain
der of the comDanv simrilv sol
diered. The commander is re
ported to have got outside of a
well-stocked oyster-bed, and as he
has not shown up at this late hour,
a guard has been detailed to find
the whereness of his whereabouts.
