A Diamond Thief s Confession.
New York, May 27. Theodore
Hahn, the butler who has been
stealing diamonds from society
women who employed hrm, and
substituting1 paste counterfeits,
pleaded guilty in court. lie states
he was receiving $30 a week as a
watchmaker aud diamond sefter,
but this was not half enough to
meet his expenses. At last iv
thought struck him. "Why not,"
whispered the tempter, "engage
yourself as a butler with a rich
family, and when my lady goes
out for a matinee or ride substitute
paste for diamonds in her jewelry.
It struck me as a clever idea. I
engaged myself with a family in
Brooklyn, and. while my lady was
at supper I sneaked up stairs and
substituted paste diamonds for the
real ones. It was very easily done.
All I did was lo loosen the setting
of the jewelry, take out the dia
monds, subsitute paste and
squeeze the setting together again.
I never remained longer than
three weeks in one place. I hare
been in twenty houses a3 butler."

It ib ascertained that the total
acreage of indemnity selections
made by the Northern Pacific
railroad company in Oregon,
Washington and Idaho is S90,024
acres. This total is less by 558,
G39 acres than the losses as esti
mated by the company's land de
partment, and 858,G2G less than
the losses as estimated by the
general land office. It is stated
that the selections of the Northern
Pacific cover nearly all the sur
veyed lands within the indemnity
limits of the grant in Oregon,
Washington and Idaho; and the
statement very probably is correct.

Rochester, N. Y., April 22, 188G.
Gektlemex : It is with pleasure I
add my testimonial to the many well
known cures which your .most ex
cellent remedy has effected. For
more than two years I was a great
sufferer . with rheumatism, being
scarcely free from pain during the
time. I found no relief until I pro
cured Dr. Pardee's remedy, and it
cured me completely. It is now two
yeara since I discontinued its use and
1 have had no symptoms of the
disease since. I know from my own
and from the experience of many
others also, that it will cure any case
if i heumatism or neuralgia.

Gektlemex : I think the medicine
prepared by the Pardee Medicine
Company is in fact the best rheumatic
medicine now on tho market; its
equal is not known. My boy only
six years old was confined to his bed

the medicine and in a few daya he
was out of bed and playing around
the house. I can cheerfully rec
