Opposed By Mrs. Young. .
San Francisco, May 4. The
Examiner continues to print from
day to day interviews with prom
inent people on the subject of es
tablishinr a penal colony in
Alaska. To-day the opinions of
a dozen or more ministers are
given, most of whom speak against
tho proposition. Rev. Dr. Linds
ley, late of Portland, says: "I
havo spent many j'ears in that
country, and think myself tolerably
familiar with the resources, inhab
itants, climate, etc., and I declare
most positively that it is absolute
ly unfit for a settlement of the
kind proposed, which, by the way,"
is not a new idea at all, but was
discussod to exhaustion twelve
years ago. But here is Mrs.
Young, who has spent years up
there also as a misrionary at Fort
"Wranel. She is here on a visit.
Let us hear what she has to say
about it." Then this lady, who
has many friends in Portland,
voiced her views in the following
spirited style. She say: " i hy,
the idea! Who ever heard of
such a thing? You shan't do it.
I give you fair warning that the
hrst attempt made in that direc
tion will prove my words. Just
o sure as people up there learn of
the approach of a convict gang
they will take down their guns
and go to shooting. The country
is but sparsely populated, but the
few there are determined chaiac
ters. You have mining camps in
this state, I believe, and you should
be somewhat familiar with their
modes of procedure. Well, the
element we have up there is of
tl.at class." And Mrs. Young's
eves sparkled dangerously, while
her lips parted in a mischievous
milo.

TRIED
CRUCIBLE,
About twenty years ago! discovered alUBe
sore on m7 cheeb, and the doctors pronounced
it cancer. I havo tried a number of physicians,
but without receiving any permanent benefit.
Among the number were one or two specialist.
The xnedldno they applied was like fire to tha
sore, causing Intense pain. X saw a statement
In tho papers telling what S. S. S. had dona for
others similarly afflicted. I procured some at
onco. Before I had used the second bottle tha
neighbors could notice that my cancer was
healing up. H y gcncra&hcalth had been bad
for two or thraoyeara I had a hacking cougft
and spit blood continually. I had a severs
pom In my breast. After taxing six bcttlaa gt
S. S. S. my cough left me and I grew stouter
than I had been for several years. My cancer
has healed over all but a little spot about tha
size of a half dime, and It 13 rapidly disappear-
Ins. I would advise every one with cancer to
