called negroes all the time, for the
simple reason that we are ne

Albany, April II. A force of
140 Chinamen, employed on the
Oregon Pacific loading cars with
ballasting, on the road east of this
city, have struck for an advance
of twenty cents per day. They
had been receiving eighty cents
and demanded SI. ' The cars, half
loaded, stand on the track, and
over half of the Chinamen left to
day to work on the O. & C. ex
tension. The leading dressmakers say
that the new spring toilettes will
be made in the style of those worn
during the directoire and restora
tion clinging skirts without dra
pery, - much embroidered and
trimmed at the foot. They will
be worn in wide sashes in beauti
ful crepe, the ends being fringed
in imitation of generals' sashes in
the days of the first republic.
