FRESH CLATSOP EGGS
Can he had of JL. ar. ShafTaer Cl Water
St., and .Wherry & Co.'s market opposite
Occident Hotel. I don't claim they are
fresh as some do who have but a few chick
ens and it takes them a month to get a
shioment, but because I have the largest
Chicken ranch this side of Portland, run by
experienced hands, pick up tho eggs every
day and bring them to town 3 times a week.
And don't you forget It that every egg bought
from the above parties Is guaranteed by
them to be fresh. S.K. STANLEY;.
A Candid Eeply.
As a model of "how not to say
it " Mr. Gladstone's reply to the
question whether lie was going to
support Scotch disestablishment
will probably never be surpassed.
As a matter of record, hero it is:
CI will only say that so far as I am
able to judge, we are thinking at
the present time, and the people
of Scotland are thinking, of other
subjects, which, are regarded, I
believe, as of much more urgent
and immediate duty than the de
termination of a very much con
troverted question, which, as I
have said before, I believe the
people of Scotland will find them
selves perfectly sufficient to de
termine, and in a manner which
the rest of the empire will respect,
whether the answer be ay or nay. it
is not within my knowledge, cer
tainly, that the consideration of
that question has entered definitely
into the concerns of the present
election, and therefore I do not
feel my own information or means
of judgment about it at all aug
mented in the course of it by any
thing that has reached me. A7". Y.

CRUCIBLE.
About twenty years ago I discovered o'lltila
soro on my cheek, and the doctors pronounced
it cancer. I have tried a number of physicians,
but without receiving any permanent benefit.
Among the number were one or two specialists.
The medicine thoy applied was like ilro to the
sore, causing Intense pain. I saw a statement
la the papers telling what S. S. S. had done for
others similarly afflicted. I procured somoat
once. Before I had used the second, bottle the
neighbor could notice that my cancer was
healing up. My general health had been bad
for two or thrco years I had a hacking cough
and spit blood continually. I had a severo
pain In my breast. After taking six bottles of
S.S.S.my coygh left mo and I grew stouter
than I had been for several years. My cancer
has healed over all but a little spot about the
size of a half dime, and It Is rapidly disappear
ing. I would advise ovory one with cancer to
give S. S. S. a fair trial.
