FRESH CLATSOP EGGS
Can be had of I. M. Sliaftacr 01 Water

fresh as some do who have but a few chick
ens and it takes them a month to get a
shipment, but because I have the largest
Chicken ranch this side of Portland, run by
experienced hands, pick up the eggs every
day and bring them to town 3 times a week.
And don't von forget it that every egg bought
from the above parties is guaranteed by
them to be fresh. S.K. STANLEY.
A MISS0TJEI STATESMAN.
Uolonul John Pinn's Adventures in
"Washington.
The adventures of Col one U oh n
Finn in "Washington would make
a hook. Coming into the room of'
a fello-w Missounan at a late hour
the other mght, Colonel Finn, with
due solemnity, said:
'You're to he pall bearer at Ma
lone's brother's funeral. I'm to
be one, and I told Malone you'd
be another. I'm going to get the
other four."
The Missourian had never seen
Malonc's brother, but he recog
nized the uselessness of suggesting
an' such obstacle to Colonel Finn's
plan; so, with a properly resigned
manner, he asked, simply:
"When is the funeral, John?"
"He ain't dead yet," replied Col
onel' Finn, without the ghost of a
smile, ''but he will ho in a few
days. Tie's sick and can't get
well."
"You don't mean to tell me
you've been making the funeral ar
rangements before the man's
death?" asked the Missourian.
"I do," stud Colonel Finn, in all
seriousness. "Malone isn't used
to these things. ' 1 told him T'd
fix everything. 1 was over in Vir
ginia this afternoon to the family
burying ground and saw the graye
dug with my own eyes."
But Colonel Finn's adventures
are not all of the ghastly kind.
He stops, while the slow ma
chinery of the government is
at. work on one of his war
claims, at a fashionable board
in house. One morning this week
an estimable widow boarder came
down stairs in a state of great in
dignation, and exclaimed to the
landlady :
"Mrs. Blank what do you think?
The count" Colonel Finn is al
ways referred to b- the other
boarders as the count "came to
my door at twelve o'clock last
night and rapped. I said:
' "Who's there?"
"Then I heard the count say:
'"Are 'ou in bed, ma'am?"
"I was never so insulted in my
life."
This sounds bad, but, fortunate
ly, Colonel Finn was able to show
something better than an alibi.
As is well known the colonel is
never without a lemon or two,
some loaf sugar and the other in
gredients for a famous Finn toddy.
On the night he rapped at the
lady's chamber door he had been
engaged in fixing up a "nightcap"
for some of the ladies in the par
lor. They were so delighted that
they insisted on c'the count" taking
one of the hot drinks up to "poor
dear Mrs. ," who had retired
early with a headache. Ln gal
lantly carrying out this philan
thropic suggestion Col. Finn had
encountered misconstruction of his
honorable motives."

TRIED
CRUCIBLE
About twenty yoars ago I discovered a little
sore on my cheek, and the doctors pronounced
It cancer. I have tried a number of physicians,
but without receiving any permanent benefit.
Among the number were one or two specialists.
The mcdlclno they applied was llko fire to the
soro, causing intense pain. I saw a statement
In the papers telling what S. S. S. had done for
others similarly afflicted. I procured somo at
once. Before I had used tho second bottle tho
neighbors could notice that my cancer was
healing up. My general health had been bad
for two or thrcoyear3 I had a hacking cough
and spit blood continually. I had a sevcro
pain In my breast. After taking six bottles of
S. S. s. my cough left mo and I grew stouter
than I had been for several years. My cancer
has healed over all but a Httlo spot about tho
size of a half dime, and It Is rapidly disappear
ing. I would advise every one with cancer to
gl ve S. S. S. a-f air trial.
