Life in Arizona.
Needles, Jan. 19. About ten
o'clock this morning J. N. Berry,
a saloon keeper at Flagstaff, was
shot and killed by Hames. The
Hames brothers were quarreling
with a man in the saloon, and Ber
ry interfered. Half an hour after
the murder the citizens took the
two brothers and shot them to
death. Berry was a quiet, peace
able man. The Hames brothers
were known to be desperate char
acters, and have been involved in
many robberies and shooting
scrapes.
The Railway Age of a late date
gives the railway mileage in the
Pacific coast states and territories
as follews: California, 3,292; Or
egon, 1,225; Montana, 1,0G2;
Washington territory, 923; Idaho,
811. Illinois has the largest mile
age, 9,579, and Rhode Island the
smallest, 210. The total mileage
in the United States is 137,500.
Boston woman suffragists are
greatly encouraged. The women
who went to the polls to distribute
"no license" ballots were politely
treated, as a rule the "boys" sus
pended smoking in their presence.

it gave Cleveland 3,078 votes and
