I IVhat He Was Golac to Say. Geo. W. Peck says of his recent interview with the. President: "I had thought of several things I wanted to say to Mr. Cleveland. Several of the boys in Milwaukee had told me to give their love to (J rover if I saw him, and I had made up my mind to just give him to understand that he was thought a good deal of up in "Wis consin, and that, so far as I could see, his appointments had given pretty general satisfaction, and that we all wished him well. I intended that the few remarks I should make would be the greatest effort of my life. My idea was to wait till all the gang had passed him, and then bring up the rear, and when he took my hand I would hold on to it and speak about as follews: 'Mr. Pres ident, I cannot let this occasion pass without saying to you that the peo ple of "Wisconsin are very proud that you have got along as well as you have. The Republicans are hopeful that yon will not do any thing very brash, and tlie Demo crats will stand by you. Ed. Wall and Bill Dodsworth, who is an old Bufialoboy, ArtDelaney, and George Paul, aud any quantity of Milwau kee boys, want to be remembered to you.' O, I had a speech as iong as my arm that I was going to fire at him, and I fell in behind the crowd and went along. A big hand was reached out, and mine was clasped by the President, at last. I had his hand. I had my head down, to keep me from stepping on the trail of a woman ahead of me, who seemed to linger longer than was necessary. As her trail disap peared, I was just going to look up to say my speech, when he let go of mj' hand and reached for another fellow just behind me, and the other fellow stepped on a stone-brif se on my heel, the only heel I have got with a stone-bruise on it, and I looked around at the big-footed ga loot behind me, and was borne out of sight, and I. hope never to see the back of my neck if I had said a word to the President." .-.ome Cynical Remarks. lie who fears death loses life. Fear is death to pleasure. The earlier a man has his eyes opened to the realities of life, "the sooner he wants to close them. If there be such a thing as the finger of God, it must be connected with the arm of Justice. Everybody has more or less cause to be unhappy. Happy is the man a ho is too busy to be miserable. He who is always complaining de serves to have good cause to la ment. As there is no method of lengthening life, we must find means to shorten time. The pessimist who is also a humor ist turns his own shroud into a harle quin's jacket, and is there a more appropriate mask in this crazv car nival of human life? It often happens that fate not only presses a cup of poison to a man's lips, but even make3 him drain it slowly, drop by drop. The proverb that man proposes but God disposes is false. Man does not propose, and God does not dis pose. Tlie world may forgive us for being weak and foolish, but it never con dones our superiority. That is the unpardonable crime." Man should endeavor to correct his faults, but he is a fool if he ad mits, even to his friends, that he has faults. Men are always willing to depre ciate your good qualifications, and to imitate your bad ones. It is not strange that very few men know themselves intimately. Most people like to get rid of dis agreeable acquaintances. Only stupid people complain of hard work. Smart people never overwork themselves. It often happens that fear is merely dread of being afraid. There is only one immortal. His name is Death. Barnum's Xew Year's Advice. P. T. Earnum prints a card in tho Bridgeport papers before New Year's, in which he says : "I wish, therefore, to hint to my fellow citizens that tho most valua ble and cheap New Year's present that one who drinks intoxicants can give to his or her family- is a temperance pledge signed and for ever adhered to. I have personally known in Bridgeport, young men, single and married, who scarcely earned a living, beyond what they expendedfor beerandstrongerdrink, turn about, sign the pledge, and now own the houses they livo in, and are laying aside surplus money every year. One city will be greatly bene fited if those Avho are now under the power of that liquid which never did a healthy person a particle of good, will, on the coming New Year's, or now, become total abstainers- for life." Cure For Piles. Piles aro frequently preceded by a sense of weight in the back, loins and lower part of the abdomen, causing tho patient to suppose ho has some effection of the kidneys or neighboring organs At times, symptoms of indigestion are present, flatulency, uneasiness of tho stomach, etc. A moisture like perspir ation, producing a very disagreeame itching, after getting warm, is a com mon attendant. Blind, Bleeding and Itching Piles yield at once to the appli cation of Dr. Bosanko's Pile remedy, which acts directly upon the parts ef fected. absorbing the Tumors, allaying th e intense itch tng,and effecting a per manent cure.
