Mr. Thomeycroft, the sculptor, (but better known as the husband ot Mrs. Thomeycroft), died a few days ago, at tho residence of his son-in-law, M. Sassoon. Mrs. Thoraeycroft, who survives her husband, is the lady whose works attracted the at tention of Queen Victoria, when her children were young. Mrs. Thomey croft executed at Rome, her famous work, called "The Sleeping Child," and when her majesty consulted the late Mr. Gibson as to the selection, of an artist to model her children, he referred to this particular work, and recommended that the commission should be given to that lady. She subsequently executed a statue of Princess Alice, and the queen was so pleased with it that she asked Mrs. Thomeycroft to undertake the prince of Wales, the princess royal, and Prince Alfred. This series was exhibited at the Royal Academy a3 "The Four Sea sons," and is now at Windsor Castle. The Princess Metternich, Baya London Life, is at present accom panying Prince Metternich on a shooting expedition in Bohemia, where her skill in handling a gun is greatly admired. Unlike the major ity of modern amazons, the princess is' said to be quite regardless of her personal appearance when hunting, as long as she is at her ease. Her hunting costume is described as consisting of a short, gray skirt, a darker jacket, a straw hat, and a pair of boots, which, as she jest ingly remarks, "make her feet look like the feet of a young elephant." Her one anxietv is to prove herself a good shot, and her one vanity to show a good bag of game at the end of each day. Rowland Hill was introduced to au aged Scotch minister, somewhat re sembling himself in piety and ec centricity. The old man looked at him for" some time very earnestly, and at length said: "Weel, I have been looking for some time at the leens on your face." "And what do you think of it?" said Mr. Hill. "Why, I am thinking that if the grace of God hadna changed 3'our heart, you would have been a most tremendous rogue." Mr. Hill laugh ed heartily, and said: "Well, you have ju3t hit tho nail on the head." A Florentine artist is manufactur ing a uniquo fan for Queen Margaret, of Italy. It is painted on glove kid, and represents a fantastic scene at sunset The queen is seen in the ethereal garden of the graces, sitting majestically on a throne, surrounded by a troop of tho virtues, she herself being their center point. On her right stand four charming female figures; they symbolize love, hope, faith, and religion. In their com pany are other allegorical figures. The prize for the best-dres3ed lady at the Mechanic's Fair, in San Francisco, wa3 awarded to a lady who had arrived in that city from the East but a short time before. She was dressed in black silk, beaded in front, with a basque covered over entirely with jet beads. Her hat was white, with a waving ostrich plume. She wore diamond orna ments, the brilliants glowing in her ears, at her throat, and in her bracelets, which were lapped over white kid gloves. They were spooning in a dark corner. He took! her hand and looked into the shining depth of blue eyes. "Marie," he said, in a low. emotional tone, "you know I would not speak if I did not mean it. I will tell the truth. I am poor, hard up. If you can only " "I'm so sorry. I left my purse up stairs; but perhap3 Brother Harry can lend you a few dollars. I'll call him." He was taken with a sudden head ache, and went homo. "For consolation I turn to thee," is a line cut on a gravestone erected by a widower to his departed wife, in an Augusta cemetery. Next to this slab on the side adjacent to the word "thee" is another gravestone sacred to the memory of the same widow er's second wife. Besides tho ap propriateness of the above inscrip tion one notices that the second wife died exactlj' one year and four days after the death of the first. Cure For Flics. Piles are frequently preceded by a sense of weight in the back, loins and lower part of the abdomen, causing the patient to suppose he has some effection of the kidneys or neighboring organs At times, symptoms of indigestion are present, flatulency, uneasiness of the stomach, etc. A moisture like perspir ation, producing a very disagreeable itching, after getting warm, is a com in on attendant. Blind, Bleeding and Itching Piles yield at once to the appli cation of Dr. Bosanko's Pile remedy, which acts directly upon the parts ef fected, absorbing the Tumors, allaying th e intense itch mg.and effecting a per manent cure.
