LIVER REGULATOR
For all Diseases of the
Liver, Kidneys, Stomach and Spleen.
This purely vc;je table pre
paration, now so celebrated as a
FamKy Medicine, originated ia
the South in 1328. It acts
jjently on the Bowels and
Kidneys and corrects the
action of the Liver, and is, there
fore, the best preparatory
medicine, whatever the sick
ness may prove to be. In aH
common diseases it will, un
assisted by any other medi
cine, effect a speedy cure.
The Regulator is safe to administer ia any
condition of the system, and unuer no circum
stances can it do harm
It will invigorate

Regulator.
Children complaining of
Colic, Headache, cr hick
Stomach, a teaspoonful or

If taken occasionally by pa

will expel the poison and protect
them from attack.
A PHYSICIAN'S OPINION.
I have been practicing medicine for twenty years,
and liave never been able to put up a vegetable
compound that would, like Simmons Liver Regu
lator, prompdy and effectively move the Liver to
action, and at the same time aid (instead of weak
ening) the digestive and assimilative po ers of the

J.C.Trullinger
A nuinan Bnslo.
At one time an officer belonging ia
one of the regiments stationed at Gib
raltar possessed a rather curious ac
complishment. Placing his hand tc
his mouth he was able to imitate the
sound of a bugle with a force almost
equal to that of the actual instrument;
and he could play a tune, or iuak6
long calls, such as the advance, re
treat, reveille, etc., so that any one
would imagine a real bugle to be
blown. In those days there were no
cab, and the principal means of la
comouon within the garrison at night
were donkeys at all events among
the yoinger officers. For the sake ol
fun, tnd without thought of doing
more harm than playing off a hoax,
the officer in question bad occasion
ally sounded a call here and there,
and t or three times a cavalcade ol
subalterns on their donkeys had
clatteied past the convent (the gov
ernor's residence) with him in theh
midst sounding tbe alarm, and caus
ing the guard to turn out, and creat
ing considerable confusion.
Orders were therefore issued that
no one was to blow a bugle without
autlvjrity to do so ; but as the pro
hibition had no effect, and it was
pretty clearly ascertained by the re
ports of sentries, etc., that one of the
officers was the culprit, the governor
assembled the various commanding
officers in garrisou, and desired that
they would ask every officer in their
respective corps to say, upon his
honor, whether he had blown a bugle
at night in the streets, and report tho
replies to him, promising forgiveness
if confession were made and the prac
tice so subversive of discipline dis
continued. When it came to tho
officer in question to reply to his
commanding officer's query, neither
he nor his colonel, nor the others
standing by, who knew all about it,
could refrain from fcmilingas he said:
"No, sir. Upon my honor, I have
not blown a bugle in the streets at
night since I have been in Gibraltar !"
"Well," said the colonel, when all
the officers had answered, "but the
governor is dreadfully vexed, and so
the thing must be stopped, and if I
find an opportunity I will explain it
to hirn and ease his mind."
When the commanding officers
brought their reports, and one after
another stated that every othcer,
upon his honor, denied having blown
a bugle in the above circumstances,
the governor, a distinguished gener
al, who was the soul of honor, good
ness, and kindness, was very much
affected.
"Gentlemen," he said, "this is
very sad, very terrible! It is not the
act itself, the breach of discipline
that wo can easily take measures to
discover and prevent but it is that
there must be one among us who,
bearing her majesty's commission,
does not scruple to tell a falsehood
upon his honor. I must consider
how to act in these painful circum
stances." When the other commanding
officers retired, after making their re
port, the colonel of the regiment to
which the onender belonged re
inained, and, addressing the gover
nor said:
"I think, sir, I can explain this
matter to your satisfaction, can
promise that the annoyance shall
cease, ana can show you that no
falsehood has been told about it."
And then he proceeded to inform
him of the extraordinary powerfc
possessed by tho officer in question.
The governor's surprise and delight
were tinbounded.
"What a relief!" he exclaimed.
"But I must hear him. You must
bring him to dinner, and he shall
play me a tune."
So the affair was settled, the gov
ernor heard the officer perform, and
the garrison heard no more false
alarms. Exchange.
