A letter in a late issuo of the Toledo Blade, giving the case of a pair of twins supposed to be the oldest in the country, brought a shoal of let ters to that office upon the subject. We have briefly summarized them in order to mention all: T'tere are living in our town, Ab ington, Lackawanna County, Pa., two twins named Joseph and Ben jamin Miller. They were born in 1809, and are now 70 years old, both healthy and active. Thoy are the sons of Rev. Joseph ililler, a Bap tist clergyman, who preached to one congregation 55 years. Mrs. Palmetier, of Winthrop, la., and Mrs. Dunbar, Geneva, Wis., are twins, and were 75 years old the 5th of last August. A family formerly lived in Dela ware County, 0., by the name of McLeod, in which were 11 son3 and 2 daughters. The daughters are still living and 10 of the sons. The oldest of the children were 2 boys, named John and Eeynold McLeod. They wero born in October, 1S09, and arc consequently 76 years old. Isaac Martz and Moses Martz are 73 years of age, and still livo at Arcadia, Ind. Their wives are twin sisters and were 69 last February. Each family has 12 children, most of whom are living. Mr. E. K. Carden and brother, of "Ware County, Minn., are twins, and passed their" 74th birthday February 5, 1S85. Jonathan and David Chase were born March 16, 1795, and are conse quently 90 years old. Thoy are now living at Fall River, Wis. Uncle Jonathan cuts his own wood, goes to the post-office regularly after his mail, and reads without glasses. He is a Seventh-day Adventist and very radical in his viows. David moved here from Haverhill, N. H., last fall. He can get around finely for a crip ple, having lost a foot a good many years ago. There are twins living in Fort Madison, Iowa, 85 year3 old. Thoir names are Mrs. Campeon and Mrs. Hiluobrand. George and Nathaniel Pierce are twins, and wore 85 years old last Maj George live3 in New York, and Na thaniel lives in Wisconsin. Both have long, white beards that have been so for 30 years. Mary and Nancy Howard, living near Anderson, Ind., are in the 85th year of their ago, and are both old maids, always having lived under the same roof, and keeping house undivided. Mrs. Caroline Cook, of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Charlotte Westcott, of Iowa City, Iowa, arc twin sisters, and were 82 years old February 28. The latter has a son and daughter, twins, 47 years old. C. H. Merhoff and brother, of Louisville, Ky., are hale and hearty, having passed the 73d milestone of their lite, January 8, 1834. A. H. ScoQeld and sister are living atPIainfield, 111., and were born at Genoa, Cayuga County, New York, February 25, 1813. Malinda Carter, of Plyinotb, Kan., and Mahala Daugherty, of Stiles, la., are still living, and were 72 last March. Elizabeth Smiley writes that she and her sister Mary were 71 last Feb ruary, and that both are enjoying good health. Two twin sisters, widows, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Beam, live at Sisler, Iowa. Jane Gano, of Berrien County, Mich., aud Hannah Calvin, of Mel bourne, 0., reached the good old ago of 79 on February 12, 1885. Mrs. Mariah Parnell and Mrs. Kizzie Parnell, two twins, married two brothers. The former is living at Lawrence, Kan., and tho latter at Pineville, Mo. Their birthday comes on February 14, and they were 79 on the last celebration ol the oc casion. S. D. Kimball and sister, of Win- field, Iowa, were born at Gaines, Orleans County, New York, and are 67 years of age. J. T. Smith, of Burn?, Kan., be longs to a family that wa3 blessed with two sets of twins, all of whom are living, aud the united sum of their ages is 220 yeara. Ashtabula, Ohio, has two twin brothers, Lorin and Orin Shepard. They were 63 last January, and are well-known lake captains." Thomas and George Briggs, of Marshall, Mich., are twin brothers, age 67. Mrs. M. Conrad, of Galesburg, Mich., and Jessie Whitlock, of Ithica, N. Y., have just reached the age of 73. Capt. John A. Jordan, aud his brother Thomas J., were 66 years old last January. Both are living at Orion, 111. Nancy Wilkinson, of Tipton, la., and her sister wero 74 on June 2, 1885. Isaac Everett and his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Martin, twins, were born near Mingo, 0., August 30, 1813, making them now nearly 70 years old. David Clark, of .Euclid, 0 for merly of East Toledo, and his twin j brother, are 6 years old, and are often mistaken for one another. James R. Fleming of Paola, Kan., and his twin sister, Barbara Flem ing, of Porter County, Ind., were born March 17, 1817, and are now 63 yeirs old. L. Cyrenus Sawyer and L. Cj'reno Sawyer are two twins residing at Lee "Center, 111., and were 67 years old last January. Benjamin and Joseph Jones were born April 10, 1807, making their ages 78. Both are living at present, Benjamin at Cobleskiil, and Joseph near Sharon Spa, Schoharie Countv, N. Y. Mr. John and Robert Derr were born May 10, 1807, and are still liv ing at Anthony, Montour County, Pa. Tamins a Parent. All these villages have distric schools, and in the winter terms the teachers once taught themselves could give daily lessons to their schol ars by means, say, of a small oil stove. They could get "the scholars to bring their lunches uncooked; eggs, pota toes, cold meat, apples, would fur nish many a lesson of practical use, and the teacher might givo les3ons on some housewife's cooking stove every Saturday to the wives of the district and the elder girls, at a small fee. We don't need any more rules for cakes, ices, candies, creams, or pastry ; we want rules for cooking salt meat, tough meat, old fowls, salt fish, vegetables of every kind, eggs, milk, fruit, and for biscuit and bread mak ing.
