"We have a good joke ou one of
the boys," said a Chicago druamer.
"I won't tell you -what his name is,
but he travels for one of the biggest
millinery houses in Chicago. Not
long ago he was at Mlwaukee, and
gotinto a row at the station with a
hack driver. The hackman was a
big fellow, and, presuming ou his
size, enjoyed himself several minutes
abusing the drummer, who was a
little man. The little chap stood it I p...-.
about five minutes, and then hislww uHlUC)
coat came off. I never saw a coat
come off a man so quick in my life,
and as it came off he gave it a vicious
sling to the other side of the room.
He meant business, and in about 40
f cconds that hack driver had a black
eve, a bloody nose, and was veiling
luslily, 'Take him off.'
"Of course, as soon as order had
been restored, we all gathered about
our drummer and congratulated him
on his nerve.
"'You did him up in scientific
shape,' said one of us.
" 'You bet your life I did,' replied
the millinery "salesman, still a little
excited; 'I "didn't get a first-class
college education for nothing. Chi

A Derided Misnomer.
3Ir. l'eathcrly (to young lady
whom he has not seen for several
years) And is it possible that this
is Birdie Simpson, whom I used to
know when a little girl ?
Birdie Simpson (who has recently
increased in flesh to 190 pounds)
Yes, Mr. Fcatherly, I am the same
person. I do not wonder that you
lind me changed. I was quite a
child when you saw me last.
Mr. Featherly (gallantly) Ye3,
and now that you have grown so
stou er increased so much in
weight er ah become a young
lady, you know, I suppose I ought
no longer to call yon "Birdie."
Xot in the Kentucky Vocabulary.
Frenchman (to Kentucky citizen)
"Yen ze friend ask you ze invite to

Citizen "Don't care if I do."
Frenchman "Doncar fido, oui !
But ven you refuse ze invite, zen vat
you say in Anghus?"
Citizen "Well erIguess you've
got me now, French." fN. Y. Sun.
A government clerk applied to the
head of his department for leave of
absence in order to attend the chris
tening of his voungest bov. "How
old is the child?" "Four days old."
"Yen' good," said the chief; "but
two weeks ago I gave you leave of
absence to bury your 'wife. What
have you to saj'?" For a moment
the suljordinalc wis dumb; then
putting a bold face on he said: "I
beg your pardon ; :ny little boy is a
