Never make a sudden motion with Ihe lamp, either in lifting it or setting it down. 3. Never place a lamp on the edge of a table oi mantle. - 4. Nevci fill a lamp after dark even if jou should have to go with out a light. 5. See that the lamp wicks are al ways clean, and that they work freely in the tube. G. Never blow a lamp out from the , top. 7. Never take a light to a closet where there are clothes. If neces sary to go to the closet, place the light at a distance. S. Use candles when possible in going about the house and in bed rooms. They are cheaper, can't ex plode, and, for many purposes are just as good a'j lamps". 9. Hatches should always be kept in stone or earthen jars or tin. 10. They should never be left where rats or mice can get hold of them. There is nothing more to the taste of a rat than phosphorous. Thev will eat it if they can get at it. A bunch of matches is almost certain to be set fire to if a rat gets at it. 11. Have perfectly good safes in even' place where matches are to be used, and never let a match be left on the floor. 12. Never let a match go out of your hand after lighting it until you are sure the fire is out, and then ft is better to put it in a stove or earthen dish. 13. It is far belter to use the safety matches which can only be lighted upon the box which contains them. 14. Have your furnaces examined carefully in the fall, and at least once during the winter by a competent person. All the pipes and flues should be carefully looked to. 15. If there are any closets in the house near chimneys "or flues, which there ought not lo be, put nothing of a combustible nature into them. Such closets will soil silver ware, crack crockery and burn bedding. They form a bad part of any house that contains them. 1G. Never leave any wood near a furnace, range, or stove to dry. 17. Have your stove looked to fre quently to see that there are no holes for coal to drop out. IS. Never put hot ashes ot coals in a wooden receptacle. 19. Be sure there are no curlains or shades that can be blown into a gaslight. 20. Never examine a gas meter after dark. AVIso Sayings. There is less devotion to principle than to appetite. The current of hale will wash away the foundation of love. The adversities of many furnish success for the few. Silent genius is heard quicker than loud ignorance. Han's genius needs woman's en couragement to develop it. Few men can be won by truth when falsehood brings them a rev enue. "When soul and stomach both hun ger feed the latter before endeavoring to satisfy the appetite of Ihe lormer. A man of humor can hew more golden chips from a sunbeam than he who swings the dull and prosaic acts of life. In studying character do not be blind to tlie shortcomings of a warm friend or the virtues of a bitter enemv. Cure For Pile. Tiles are frequently preceded by a sense of weight in the bael:, loins and lower part of the abdomen, causing the patient lo suppose lie lias some vffection of tho kidneys or neighboring organs. At times, symptoms of indigestion arc present, flatulency, uneasiness of the stomach, etc. A moisture like perspir ation, producing a very disagreeable itching, after getting warm, is a com mon -ntteiidaut. Uliud. lilccding and Itching Piles yield at once to the appli cation of Dr. JJosanko's Pile remedy, which acts directly upon the parts ef fected, absorbing the Tumors, allaying the intense itching, and enocting a per manent cure. Price ."0 cents. Address The Dr. Uosanko Medicine Co., Piqua, O. Sold by J. W. Conn. "Mali," remarked young Johnnie Jarphly, "I heard Sir." Brown say he was going to put some more of his land in strawberries this year." "Gracious me, I hope not!" ex claimed Mrs. Jarphly. "There was enough of his land in those I bought of him last year." His Loss uas Her Cain. "Well madam' said a fashionable physician to a wealthy lady patieut,"if you don't like my prescriptions, per haps you had better try Parker's Ton ic, or some other quack stuff." "Yon don't mean it Doctor," she answered, "bnt your advice may be good for all that. Sometimes what you call 'quack stufT is the best and most sci entific medicine, after all." She got a bottle of Parker's Tonic and it cured her of nenralgia arising from a disordered stomach oud nerves.
