Tho decision of Judge Brewer, of the United States circuit court, in the caso of tho United States ys. tho Southern Kansas railway company, declaring 27,000 acres of land, hereto fore held by that company, to be wrongfully held and now part of the public domain, has created tho wild est excitement ever known in this part of the state. As Boon as tho decision wa3 mado known in southern Kansas, men iu wagons, buggies, and on horse back, came in great numbers from "Wilson and other counties' to this county (Woodson) and also Green wood county, and commenced staking ofTclaims, saying that Judge Brewer's decision declared all lands heretofore held by tho Missouri, Kansas & Tex as railway to be government land. They are building shanties on many quarters, and breaking sod, so as to perfect their claims. They have even stuck their stakes and are breaking ground on lands which were entered by college script, and patents for which "were on record before either tho Santo Pe or Missouri, Kansas & Texas railways -were organized. m S'xty Dollars and Sixty Cents a Day. Eockford, Ills., Sept. 17. Miss Xellio Dean, daughter o a wealthy lumber merchant in Chicago, has created a sensation here by going to work as a factory girl in a spinning mill for a salary of sixty cents per day. It is understood that she had been chaffing her father now and again by threatening to earn her own living. In a bantering way he told her he would give hor a dollar for every cent sho earned. She saw in this her opportunity and sought and fonnd work in the mills. If her father comes down accordiug to his agree ment her salary of sixty cents will grow to sixty dollars a day, a figure which makes her the envy of all hor present associates. She has lots of resolution and will undoubtedly stick to her employment until she makes her fortune, which she will not b"e long in doing. Cure For lil.
