Hard To Tell Which Was the Bis Fool of the Four. Atii.vxta, Ga., Sept. 11. Follovring are the particulars of the terrible en counter iu which three men were mortally wounded, that occurred here: The parties "were John and Matthew Maxwell, father and son, and John R. Shelton, who eloped with and married Miss Ida Maxwell. Jno. Maxwell ia r. highly respectable citi zen, living on Elliott street. HL? son Matthew is a well-known carriage manufacturer. Maxwell has three comely daughters, and the second, aged 10, Miss Ida, has been quite a belle, haviug a host of admirers. Among them was John B. Shelton, a young man of good family but care less habits, whose visits were forbid den by the girl's father. Neverthe less they contrived to meet secretly and pledged their love. An gentle man told Matthew Maxwell that his sister aud Shelton had planned an elopement. Hurrying home young Maxwell rushed up to the second story room which his sister occupied, and demanded admittance, which was refused. With a kick ho burst the door open, and there found Mis Ida already dressed for her escapade. "My God! sister," ho exclaimed; "you will not disgrace the family by such a proceeding as this?' "I will marry John," she replied, "if I have to die in tho attempt. It is useless for you to trv to prevent it." Iu vain the brother expostulated. The girl remained obdurate. Ho went out, locked tho door, and left her a prisoner, and went to his room. Returning in ten minutes he opened the door and found the room empty. A riiTJCKY KSCArE. It developed that tho girl, fiudiug herself imprisoned, opened the win dow, jumped to the kitchen roof, fif teen feet below, and thence to the ground, another fifteen feet. Thence her tracks wero followed to a side ju icy, where newlj made carriage tracks told that she had reached her lover aud was away. 13y this tiiro the elder Maxwell was upon the scene. The two men were fearfully agitated. They Aveut into the house, and at G o'clock armed to the teeth, emerged and proceeded to Davis street, whither Shelton took his bride after being married. The two furious men went to Shelton's door. Shelton was standing on tho threshhold with a hatchet. "You ," exclaimed Maxwell, "I will shoot you to death unless you give up my daughter.' "Do not come near me," shouted Sholtou, raising tho hatchet aud ad vancing. Just then tho yonngor Maxwell, seeing hi3 father in danger, stepped in between and received a cleave from the tomahawk. Dropping tho bloody instrument, Shelton drew a pistol and fired at the elder Maxwell. Simultaneously Maxwell also fired and all thrco men fell across each other, wounded and bleeding. The girl who had been tho cause of all this bloody work, rushed out upon tho scene, and embraced her dying husband, called him by endear ing names, while her father and brother were neglected. In five minutes hundreds of people had collected. Officers camo and had tho men removed. Shelton and young Maxwell will die, while the death of the old man is highly prob able. Just a month ago Mathew Maxwell was himself the hero of an elopement scrape. A young lady engaged to another man eloped with him the night before she was to be married. His Loss was Her (Sain. "Well madam' said a fashionable physician to a wealthy lady patient "if j-ou don't like my prescriptions, per haps you had belter try Parker's Ton ic, or some other quack stuiiV "You don't mean it Doctor," she answered, "but your advice may bo good for all that. Sometimes what you call 'quack stuff is the best and most sci entific medicine, after all." She got a bottle of Parker's Tonic and it cured her of neuralgia arising from a disordered stomach ond nerves. She told her friends nnd now they all keep a doctor at home in the form of Park er's Tonic. YOBXG3IKX! KKAD THIS.
