Hibert, who was implicated in the murder of her husband near Silverton some Ave years ago. Tho writer savs ' ho knows of a reward of S6.000 offered for tho woman, dead or alive, for past offenses, and will "recompense" any one giving him the tip to earn the $6,000. Hibert and tho woman came from California somo five or six years ago uuu otiucu UCUl OllVCJIUU. -U.1UUIIH life was insured for $15,000, and it was for this money that the crime was committed. They had not been living together very long when an other man named Whitney, said to bo a former paramour of the woman, came to Marion comity and located near the Hiberts. Whitney and the woman were often seen in each oth er's company, and, it is alleged, were conspiring against Hibort's life. One day the latter was sent to Sil verton on some pretext, and when on his way Lome was shot dead from an ambush by unknown parties. "Whit ney was arrested on suspicion, and after a long and tedious trial lasting many days, was acquitted on Mrs. Hibert's testimony. Tho guilty wifo then secured the insurance money of her deceased husband and the pair left hurriedly for California. They drifted about to various portions of the stale, and it is learned that they are now living at Sacramento. She, it is stated, is now in a fashionable bagnio there. Nothing is known of Whit ney's whereabouts. Steamer Aground. The steamer Spoftant', owned by the Oregon Eailway and Navigation com pany, is aground at Pine Tree Rapids, Snake river, ; forty miles from Ri paria W. T. The SjMKane is run as freight boat between Ripara and Lew iston, and Saturday left tho former place for Jim Forts' landing, near Ainsworth, at the mouth of tho Snake, to load up. "While descending the rapids sho left tho channel and, the water being low, soon ran aground. A iteamerwas dispatched to her assist ance from Riparia, but it is not known what progress has been made. The place is out of the way of all mail and telegraph communication, and it will be some days before anything is heard from the steamer, The Spokane was built in 1878.5?Sne is 151 feet long, thirty-two feel; beam and four feet depth of hold.
