Washington, July 25, Under date
of Savanilla, United States of Colom
bia, July 1st, Admiral Jouett reports
that a battle occurred between the
government forces and revolutionists,
in -which 1,000 men were killed. The
admiral says: ''The revolutionary
forces number only 25,000 men, but
they hold a number of large river
steamers and are able to move freely
on the Magdalen a river, while the
government forces, having but two
small steamers, aro obliged to move
by land. On June 10th, General
Camargo, a very prominent Colombi
an politician and leader, arrived at
this port on an English steamer and
immediately assumed command of
the revolutionary army. The arrival
of Camargo, who is a violent liberal,
effectually defeated all efforts to se
cure peace by treaty, which would
undoubtedly have been successful
had he remained away a while longer.
Camargo quickly attacked a govern
ment force of 1,500 with his whole
arnry. Although Camargo claims to
havo won the battle, he admits suf
fering severe ioss, including seven of
his best generals. It is reported that
each sido lost about 500 men."
The revolutionists clearly intend to
conlino their operations to the Mag
dalena river and the interior. This,
together with the iici that the gov
ernment has no steam vessels on the
coast, insures the isthmus and ves
sels on the high seas against any
chance of disturbance by tho revolu
tionists. All reports from the isth
mus indicate that political matters
there remain settled, and that peace
and good order prevail. There is,
however, na alarming epidemic of
yellow fever at Aspinwall and all over
the isthmus.
Something for the Baby.
What a terrible affliction about the
house i3 a cross baby! A young man
on the very edge of matrimony might
'easily be frightened from his purpose
by having too much of that sort of
music at the homes of his married
friends. Yet babies cry commonly
only when they are sick. One lea
spoonful of Parker's Tonic, given the
little one, will bring rest and sleep to
the baby and all in the house. Only
50 cents, at druggists.
