During tlieir visit to this city, says
tlie .Fort Townsend Armis. ben-
otors Miller and Dolplx liavo bad sev
eral interviews with James G. Swan. !
The two senators with Governor
Squire, were with Mr. Swan nearly,
three hours! The principal topics
discussed were the development of
our fisheries and the introduction o j
new varieties of marine food pro-1
ducts. Mr. Swan advocated an ad-1
ditional anproprittion to the United
states fish commissioner to be ex
pended in experiments in these wa
ters. He sufffrested that wc have shad
to stock our rivers and lobsters to he '
deposited at suitable places, and that
experiments be made with various
mads of oysters, all those things re-,
quinncrcare and rnteeiion to test
their aclantaliilitv to our waters,

for collecting alcoholic specimens, all
oi wuicn are lying idle for want of
funds. Senator Miller promised that
as soon as Le goe3 to Washington he
will see that funds are furnished to
have the experiments properly tested.
It isvery discouraging lo get such
low prices for everything the farmer
has to sell, and "especially is this
true of butter; never has it been so
low in Oregon country merchants
pay only teu cents for it;they say that
most of that which is offered will not
bear packing, that it spoils very soon.
We see in the Join mil of Ayrh-ul-lure
that four cents is the ruling price
there. An English paper complains
of the same thing, and the farmers in
England are discouraged at low prices.
Creamery bnltor is quoted at St.
Louis at 1G and 19 cents.
Sonclhin-- for the Eabj.
What a terrible affliction about the
house is a cross baby! A young man
on the very edge of matrimony might
easily be frightened from his purpose
by having too much of that sort of
music at the homes of. his married
friends. Yet babies cry commonly
only when they are sick. One tea
spoonful of Parker's Tonic, given the
little one, will bring rest and sleep to
the baby and all in the house. Only
50 cents, at druggists.
