The practice- as above indicated, a few men, and I have known some persons in old age who" were entirely broken up by placing their signatures to a note wbercin they bad no interest whatever. Why do men ask such favors? There are as many as two reasons. First: the party asking such favor is not considered finan cially sound, or secondly, is regarded as dishonest. If he is considered honest, why the necessity of asking security; if dishonest, why should he call upon an honest man to vouch for his dishonesty? The way this business runs is all wrong. I have lived in Oregon 33 years, have had all the credit necessary, and even much more, and I never called upon any one to sign a note with me: have signed Botes often with friends, and s as jei-, exuu is an j. uavc ever nau to pay, but have known A to sell prop erty to B, and in order to get me to sign with A, offering me a chattel mortgage on property bought when I had not the least interest in the transaction; B being the party inter ested, in getting his money, should have taken the mortgage. This way of doing is simply borrowing a man's character, and if I can't transact my affairs without borrowing my neigh bor's character, Til sell out and quit business. This practice leads to a greater and greater indebtedness, besides being wrong in itself. An honest man can always get as much credit as is good for him, and a dis honest one ought not to have credit. Don't go security. Don't lend your character, for when your money is gone, your financial character will be gone. Among all the new leaves wo should tarn in Oregon, we should turn one here. A. W. L.. in Farmer and Dairyman. Something Tor the Baby. "What a terrible afiliction abont the house is a cross baby! A young man on tho very edge of matrimony might easily be frightened from hirvjmrpose by having too much of that sort of music at the homes of his married friends. Yet babies cry commonly only when they are sick. One tea spoonful of Parker's Tonic, given the little one, will bring rest and sleep to the baby and all in tho house. Only 50 cents, at druggists.
