Experience of a Californian as a Fil ibuster. . New Orleans, July 8. Joseph 51. Worrall tells a strange stori. He ssiys lie came to see the exposition from California, where he had been a miner. Ho was told that ho might join the Honduras mining expedition with profit to himself, and resolved upon going. lie was introduced to Captain Martin and made application to go oa the contemplated mining trin. He left here on tho E. li. 11 artlj Jr., on ATay 2Gth. Captain Martin had told him that there would probably have to be some fighting done to obtain possession of tuo mine. Worrall says that he found some twenty other men on tho steam er and all were comfortably provided for. Capt. Martin was not there. When two dajs out at sea E. James, who wa3 at the head of the expedi tion, came to him and said that he was disappointed at Martin not being aboard. James said he had advanced Martin some SSOO. James then told Worrall the real nature of the expe dition. He said that Soto, the former president of Honduras, was desirous of recaining Jthat position, and the ,?,; r f..i t i. i, ji -7, i. ,l Vm Y .1, uwrii uucu uuuu in auih for the same purpose, and the New Orleans expedition was to meet n be xiuatan. James told him that as ho had been a military man, it was desired that he should take charge of sixteen men, ud that he would leave Worrall and the men on the island with money, and it would be their mission to con ciliate the natives and wait for a steamer, which would come in sight and flv a while pennant That even ing the arms were opened and dis tributed. .Each man received a Colt's magazine rifle and one or two re volvers. LTverything wont on nicely and quietly until Saturday night, when the H ant anchored at Ituatan. On Sunday the party went ashore, and the custom house oilicers took their rifles and ammunition away, allowing them to retain their revolvers, which were useless without bullets. They remained at Ruatan all day Sunday, and asked James what was to be done. He told "Worrall and two men to accompany him to Truxillo. James hired a sloop, and the party of four started. James said he would engage schooner to take the rest of the men ont to sea and there await the arrival of the New York steamer. James and the three others reached Truxiho the next Sunday. There they met Messrs. Lees, Johnson and Uector from Chicago. They were there with an abundance of money, and were hiring a schooner to go down the coast and engage iu mining, when .lames explained tho nature of the expedition which he headed, and the Chicago parties became frighten ed and abandoned their enterprise. Two or three days afterwards James and several friends rode ofF in land towards the capital. This was the last Worrall saw of him. Before leaving James gave him $100 in the money of that country, and instrnc ted him to look ont for the expedition from Nov, York. Worrall says he did not do this, but came back here. Lee and Johnson of Chicago came with him, but Proctor missed the boat. On the day of their departure from iruxillo the place was excited over rumors that the Soto expedition had arrived at Huatan. Barricades were erected and martial law was in sway. Mr. Worrall is from L03 Angeles, Cal., and considers himself well out of the romantic scrape. The purser of the steamer K. li. V, aril, Jr., vouches for the truthfulness of Wor rall in tho matter o the parly on board with James, tho distribution of arms, eta, and tho landing of the pari at ltnatan. Tho rest of tho not s'orv he has hcaru, but does know of hi3 own knowledge. Sl'iriDE IN CORVALMS. On Thursday night. July 2nd, oc curred a blood cnrdling affair in Cor vallis that will long be remembered by that community. All parties con nected with the tragedy are well known in Benton county. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Kline, their son Moses and niece Pauline, went to E. Rosenthal's store at about 9 o'clock p. it., and locked the door behind them. The two women then proceeded to cow hide and otherwise beat Rjsenthal, while the two men stood to prevent Rosenthal from defending himself. After finishing their work, ho wroto a note, which was afterwards found, stating that "tho Klines have robbed me and now have murdered me." The note requested Mr. L. Newgrass and Max Friendly to settle up his busi ness and to give him a decent funer al. He then placed his revolver in hi3 mouth and fired, the ball coming ont of the top of his head and killing him instantly. When found he was lying in his bed on his back. It is stated by tho gentleman who informed the Salem Statesma7i that trouble has been brewing between the Klines and Rosenthal for tho last six months. There is much excitement about tho matter, and in all probability the four have already been arrested. St. Jacob3 Oil, tho Great German Remedy, cures pains, sprains, bruises, and soreness. TThat a Southern Pacific Railway Ofii cial Says of Southern Oregon Possi bilities and the Northern Pa cific Competition. Mr. Gage, who is now installed in his office as assistaut president of the " There is an undeveloped countn in northern California and southern Oregon, that has tremendous possi bilities for future trade with San Francisco. The state wants immi-; grants of the right sort to settle that j country, and I think immigration is' coming in now as fast as it can be properly assimilated. San Francisco will regain all of its trade with Ore gon and Washington territory as soon as rails are laid through from this city to Portland." "And when will that be.J" asked the reporter. i "Well, the connection could be: made, I suppose, in two years after work on the California and Oregon is ! resumed." "And that will be?" "I am not prepared to answer that. The late state legislature asked con gress to extend the time of those land grants up there for two years. We must sco that congress does, and then we can tell better what the rail road will do." Tho above conversation was held about four days prior to the receipt of news from New York that the Central Pacific railroad was prepar ing an 1S3UO of $3,000,000 in bonds to complete the Oregon branch. The secret is said to have leaked out among tho railroad officials re cently assembled here, that it is the intention of the Central Pacific rail road company, when their bonds fall due. which were issued to them as means to raise funds for its construe tion, to throw up tho "plant" tt the government, to take place in a few years, when it will be worn to a "streak "of rust and a right of way." The Central Pacific company has or ganized a corporation in Kentucky to lease all their toads and run them "Among the tyiuscs which have con tributed to the falling off in the through passenger traffic of the Southern Pacific company may ho noticed the increase m the' tourist travel over the Northern Pacific. In spite of tho fact that the Northern Pacific receives a subsidy of $500,000 a year for keeping oat of the .South ern Pacific compan;?ri'ierniorr"nni! maintaining the arbitrary rale oi $20 on steamer tickets between this city and Portland, tho cars of tho north ern road are daily filled with first class passengers going oast and west." "Clear the Nay!" Complaint is made that the slroeu of the city aro so clogged with dirt and garbage that it is difficult to pass along. This is bad business, but not halfsobadas when the ducts and passages in the human sj'stem become blocked and clogged with impurities, and the liver has no chance to do its work of clausing the blood. But even this slate of affairs yields to Brown's Iron Bitters, the great family tonic, which you can get at any drug store for a dollar.
