IVSpetlal atttitiea civen t rupplyteg saipc ATTACK ON THE FRENCH. Pabis. July G. In tho chamber of deputies to-day, M. do Freycinet read tho following dispatches from Gen. Ceurcy: Hue, July 53 a. m. The French legation were suddenly attacked at 1 o'clock this morning by tho whole Annamite garrison of tho citadel. The entire quarters of tho marines and infantry, consisting of straw huts posted around the legation, were set on fire, some by incendiary mis siles and others by hand. But the embassy itself was untouched. No serious loss occurred. It is impos sible to know what happened at Hon gea, where the Third Zouaves are quartered. The citadel is afire at several points. A hot artillery and infantry fire is being kept up. I am certain, from the direction of the firing, that the enemy have been re pulsed. I have been able to save the telegraph hut, and have sent orders to Hai-Phong to havo the troops en camped there sent here. I feel no uneasiness. Hue, July 511 a. ir. The citadel is m our possession, with 1,000 can non, lhe troops behaved splendidly, and I havo full confidence in them. Our losses were considerable. The Annamite attack commenced at 1 o'clock this morning, simultaneously, against the part of the citadel occu pied by us and the legation. The assailants numbered 30,000. They burned the straw barracks with rock ets. The soldiers' effects were burn ed, but our ammunition and pro visions aro safe. The legation was riddled with shot. I am making all necessary preparations for repulsing another attack, which may be expect ed to-night, at any rate, against tho legation. You. need have no uneasi ness. Hue, July G. Wo remain in posses sion of the citadel, after a shameful attack by all tho Annamite troops. Our troops awoko and found their quarters afire and themselves being bombarded. They held their ground until daybreak, when they advanced and routed tho enemy. From 1,200 to 1,G00 corpses cover the ground. Our losses aro sixty killed and wounded. I will send you details of tho occurrence to-morrow, together with a list of rowards for this feat of arms, which redounds to tho honor of our brave officers and soldiers. I am warned of an attack upon the legation to-night, and am myself looking out f All goes well. General Campenon, minister of war, said that the French forces in Tonquin jiumbered 35,000. Of these 30,000 were available to be dispatched to any point He begged the house to feel reassured. Mons. Creppel said that events at Hue had modified the situation in re lation to China, and ho therefore moved an adjournment of the debate on tho Chinese peace treaty. M. do Freycinet opposed tho motion, and tho chamber sustained his objection by deferring the motion. A dispatch just received from Gen. Courcy says that the Annamites at Hue are preparing to make a fresh attack on his position. Tho general expresses confidence in his ability to hold out against the Annamites until he is reinforced. Gen. Courcy telegraphs further in regard to tho attack made upon him by the Annamite garrison at Huo on the night after his arrival at the cap ital. He gives the losses in killed and wounded on both sides as fol fel fol eows: French, GO; Annamite, 1,500. After this engagement Gen. Courcy occupied tho citadel, which he found to contain 1,000 guns. He has also ordered that reinforcements "be sent him from Hai-Poong. YOOXG 3IEX ! 11KAI THIS.
