Cl She gaHg IMtoran. ASTORIA, OllEGOS: TIIMDAY ArRiL28. 1655 It is reported iu Odessa that the Amcor Abdurrahman has sold Penj deh to Russia, and is now negotiating for cession of Herat. The Victoria Colonist contains a proclamation by the authorities in forming all deserters from her majes ty's navy that if they will re-enlist no notice will be token of their past transgression. A postal card was received at the sheriff's office, Buffalo, the other day, giTing the particulars of the escape of prisoners from the Jackson, Mich., penitentiary, and addressed to 4'Gro ver Cleveland, Sheriff.' A suit has been brought in the wilds of Pennsjlvonia by a man against his mother, who is charged with having cast so large an assort ment of magic and spells over the plaintiffs dog as to kill the beast. Tnn Druggist's Circular says that the essentials of a healthy homo are dryness, plenty of sunlight, an abun dance of pure water, pure air and cleanliness ecerywhere. "These things copt money:" but aro not fun erals expensive. The funds were placed to the credit of citizens of Great Britain and Franco who were friendly to tho south. At the close of the war there was an un expended balance of 5,030.000. Ben jamin consulted with these agents as to the disposition of the money and it was agreed that it should be surren dered to the United States. The ques tion was then how to disburse tho money so as to benefit those who were entitled to it It was concluded that those who hod given their means to the confederacy for its bonds were entitled to the money, and bonds were advertised for, and to cover the real object of the movement it was hinted that the bonds were to be held by speculators and that suit was to instituted against the United States for their payment. r- r U7U 'Sfci A Your Nfilinl AND Steer Yourself to 3Iy Establishment. Tiie Ilupsian-Afghan conflict occu pies entirely the attention of Euro pean diplomacy at present. An iso lation of England in Europe is eager ly sought to be brought about The British empire has not a single friend on tho continent. Tiie Jacksonville Sentinel sas that an enterprising New Yorker has made the O. & G. It. B. Co. a propo sition to buy their tunnel on tho Sis kiyou to be used as a cellar for a large ale aud porter brewery which he pro poses to erect there. The News says that a 3Jadrid jour nal, colled the Correspondencia, is pe culiar in its way. It has the largest circulation of any paper in the capi tal, reaching from 200,000 to 300,000 a day. It has no editor, but a dozen wide awake reporters, who scour the town for every kind of information. They come to the office and drop their manuscripts in a bag, and there they stay until tho foreman wants copy. Every thing is then thrown into the forms without regard to or der or anything else, and the paper is read from end to end in Fpite of the fact That's a capital idea! At the risk of saying something original, The Astobiax suggests that next time it might be well to send some thing less than ninety candidates for U. S. senator to represent us at Salem. A legislator is one thing; a candidate for senator is another, and an attempt to unito the two in one thing or man, is disastrous to all con cerned . It is stated in San Francisco jour nals that the Northern Pacific people are contemplating seriously of put ting a line of steamers on the Co lumbia river, between "Wallula Junc tion andPortland.withportagesatThe Dalles and the Cascades; in other words, re-establishing the line of tho old O.
