PATRICIAN is a dark bay with black points, Wi hands high ; is of a gentle, trac table disposition, ai d is a pure-gaited trot ter. He was bred by Wm. Corbett. at Oak Grove Breeding F:irm, Sau Mateo. CaL The pedigree furnished by Mr. Corbett at time of purchase has been mislaid, but from the American Stud Book, and other reliable sources, I have the following : Patrician was sired by Oak Grove, son of Anhurtonby Rjsdyks Hamiltonian; dam. Belle Alta ; grand-dam by Bellmont. a thor oughbredCalifornia's great sire of racers and trotter. Among the latter, from Bell mont dams are Nellie Putcben, 2:25K and Peluse Sheppard. 2 3). Oak Grove was an untrained horse, and went to Australia before having but little opportunity of establishing a record. His dam is a full sister to Venture, who has a record of 2 :27. Arthurton. although nev er prepared for racing, has shown a mile in 2 H&Yt. At four years old he was bred to fine mares, and of the produce are Arab, 2:20tf, and Joe Arthurton. 2:25tf. Arthurton's first dam. Imogene by Seely's American Starr: second dam by Abdalla, ; third dam by Imp. Bell founder; fourth dam by Royalist, son of Commander, by Imp. Messenger ; fifth dam by Hardware, by imp. aiessenger, Rysdyk's Hamiltontan by Mambrino, son of imp. Messenger: Hamiltonian besides being the sire of Dexter, 2 il. Nettle, 2 :18, Orange Girl, 2 0 and Jay Gould, 2 21. has to his credit three others that have trotted In 2 ;30. and better. He was also the grand-sire of Maud S., 2 3i Jay Eye See, 2:10, and St. Julian. Hamiltonlan'd first dam was the Chas. Kent mare by Imp, Bell firunder; second dam. One Eye by Bishop's Hamiltonian, son of Messenger. Thus it will be seen that Patrician has two direct crosses of Bellfoundcr and four of Messen ger, the two great fountain heads of trotting blood in America. He has had but little handling, but In the opinion of an experi enced trainer, has shown a remarkable de gree of speed, and staying qualities, and with proper training through the season would be able to make a mile in 2 :10. Mares from a distance will be received at Sklpanou aud will be pastured at a reason able rate. All care will bo taken to prevent acci dents, but I will be responsible for none. JOSIAH WEST. The noveniniont ot Mexico has late ly made important additions to .the concessions heretofore granted to the Tenuantepec ship railway. Mexico guarantees the net revenue of the company to the extent of 81,2o0,000 per annum for fifteen years after the completion of the road, and gives the company the right to ask for addi tional guarantees from other govern ments to the extent of $2,500,000 per annum, or a total of $3,750,000, being four per cent on $93,000,000. Other guaranteeing governments may have a rebate of 25 per cent on their commerce for thirty years, and a rep resentation of two-ninths in the board of directors. The company has the right to establish coaling stations and to import coal free of duty, 'to furnish ships in transit, and also the right to collect all tolls, except -those from Mexican commerce, in gold, a differ ence in favor of the'eompany of about 18 per cent There are several other minor concessions granted, such as the right to establish two tow-boat lines independent of taxation and to collect harbor dues. There are no hod-carriers in Ger many. Bricks are passed from hand to hand. The higher up the brick layers are, the more men are required to toss the bricks. Two men to a story is about the average, with enough more to lead from the front of the building to the place where the brioks are needed. One may some times see three men on the ground, eight on the front of the building and five on top, making sixteen men through whose hands each brick passed before it reaehed its place of destination. A gentleman who is well-versed in regard to cattle says that after the sap rises in the spring, cattle driven from north to south a distance of thirty miles or more are sure to die, and those driven from south to north will not die, but the cattle they come in contact with will die. Driving east and west has no effect upon them. Cummin, 6a., Clarion.
