A new form of floating iron break water is to be placed as an experi ment at Eastbonrne, England. Its general nature is somewhat like this: Two rows of iron pontons filled with cork or otherwise constructed inter nally to remain buoyant when injured by collision or by acts of war are run out to sea in parallel lines. The front facing tbe expected storm stress is wedge shaped, so as by dividing the mass of projected water to lessen the force of the impact and cause part of tha water f o ascend in a column of spray which then falte back. The wave which ruBhed under the ponton has its velocity retarded by a lattice framing carried twelve feet below the ponton. This framing also im- j parts stability to the ponton. Behind the wedge-shaped ponton is another ponton wnicn serves as a wau, anu tu the intervening space the waves are intercepted. Two sorts of chain moorings secure the breakwater. Qnineault reservation is located on the ocean about thirty miles north of Gray's Harbor. The reservation con tains 224,000 acres, one-half of which is forest, the remainder prairies, some of which are large; one having an area of 3,000 acres, others a few hun dred each. Cranberry flats abound and are very productive of natural berries. The agency is managed by Capt. "Willoughby. The population, 370 Indians, live in small villages at the mouth of the Quineault, the Qneets and the Quileute rivers, from which they obtain their chief support. Some of them are quite advanced, but by far the greater number are poor, degraded to the last degree, living on boiled or roasted roots and dried salmon eggs. Their cabins are dilapi dated and without furniture. The school contains 24 children who are quite advanced in ordinary education. Nearly all the young children die and the health of the adults is by no means rugged, being as elsewhere scrofu lous, and fall an easy prey to con sumption. Mr. Davies Murdoch, 35 W. Bid die Si, Baltimore, Maryland, says: I had a most severe attack of cold and cough, accompanied by irritation of the throat and hoarseness. I was advised to try Bed Star Cough Cure, and did so. Three or four doses at night gave prompt relief and cured me. I recommend it The newspaper humorist has his own peculiar trials. His best para graphs are unnoticed until some pi ratical sheet prints them as original matter. Then they are copied from Dan to Beereheba, the pirate receiv ing credit when credit is given. How He Got a Position. "1 applied for a position in a hanking house in Wall street six months ago, and although I proved my competency, they would not take me. I had been down on my luck and looked old and shabby. An idea struck me I got up a new growth of hair with Parker's Itair Balsam, raised a decent suit of clothes, applle.l again, and they took me in a minute." So writes a clerk with $2,000 salary. The moral is plain. Parser's Hair Balsam gives a person a new face Dr. M. E. "Wadsworth says the earth has a ''heterogeneous viscid, elastic, liquid interior, irregularly in terlocked with and gradually passing into a lighter heterogeneous crust.'' That is a good definition of a custard pie. Excited Thousands All over the land are going into ec stasy over Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption. Their unlooked for recovery by the timely use of this great life Saving remedy, causes them to go nearly wild in its praise. It is guar anteed to positively cure Severe Coughs. The desk was made by Mr. C. Constantine of this city and certainly reflects great credit un the skill, taste aud workmanship of the manufacturer. The desk is about fifty-two inches.high by two feet in width and is made out of various woods such as oak, asli, but ternut, walnut and v.hlto holly; they were fir?t saw ed out in pieces and so cut in beauti ful designs as to resemble fine bracket work. The top or cover of the desk is inlaid with cardinal and blue velvet. At the back on either sldo of a square recess are i o hand somely caned apartments with folding uoors. in tne (teste part are a numoeroi pigeon holes for papers, em elopes, etc, this is surmounted with beautiful bracket work, and on the top of each side Is a white door, handsomely carved ; underneath Is a semi circle, also carved in rich designs, inlaid with gilt work. The sides are inlaid with crimson velvet, the bracket work being laid over It in different kinds of rich woods, the whole being sunnounted with cold mould ings. A brief description of this wonderful invention conveys no Idea of its elegance and fiulsh. one musfsee It to appreciate It. The desk will be raffled off and persons de sirous of procuring a handsome and useful ornament for the home office should not lose the opportunity to take a chance, Mr. Constantine can be found at the store any time to show those desirous of seeing the desk.
