States has learned that the izovern-
ment of the republic of Guatemala I
has set ou foot, or threatened to set
on foot, an invasion of the republics
of Nicaragna, Costa Rica and San
Salvador, with the professed object of

Resolved, As the judgment of the
senate that, in view of the special

States in conjunction with those of
the republics of Nicaragua and Casta
Rica, in inter-oceanic transit across
the continent, tho propesed invasion
of the territory of Nicaragua or Costa
Rica by the forces of Guatemala, un
der the circumstances and with the
purposes before stated, is regarded
by the senate and ought to bo treated
by tho United States as an act of un
friendly and hostile interference with
the rights of the United States, nnd of
the repnblics of Nicaragua and Costa
Rica, in respect to said matter.

this city nnd certainly reflects great credit
on tiie skill, taste and workmanship of the
manufacturer. Ihe deskLs about fiftv-two
inches high by two feet In width and i-"niaile
out of various woods such as oak, ash, but
ternut, walnut and white hollv : thev were
firr sawed out in pieces and so cut In beauti-
mi ueaicus as to resemble line bracket work.
The top or cover of the cek is inlaid with
cardinal ami blue velvet. At the back on
either side of a square recess arc two hand
somely carved apartments with folding
doors. In the desk part are a number of
pigeon holes for papers, en elopes, ett!., tills
is surmounted wlthbcautiiul bracket work,
and on the top of each side is a white door,
liaudsomely carved ; underneath Ls a semi
circle, also carved in rich designs, inlaid
with gilt work. The sides are Inlaid with
enmson velvet, the bracket work being laid
over it In different kinds of rich woods, the
whole Mug surmounted with gold mould
ings. A brief description of this wonderful
invention conveys no Idea of its ejegance
and finish, one must see It to appreciate it.
