This morn ing about 5 o'clock Thomas McNary attempted to commit suicide by cut tincr his throat with a dull pocket knife in room No. 25 at the Exchange hotel. He has lived about Albany at intervals for the past eight years. Last year he stopped at Yaquiua, and during the past few months has been with liobinson & West's logging crew. Since the drive was finished and the hands paid off, two weeks ago, he has been on a continned drunk, and the rash deed this morning is but the re suit of an attack of the tremens. After the cutting he jumped from his bed nnd run several blocks, when lie was caught by night watch Brown and taken back. Drs. "Wallace and Mastou were summoned aud gave the necessary nssisiauce. The cut was found to oe very severe, the windpipe being severed, and will undoubtedly resnlt in his death. Salem, Feb. 11. The Oregon state temperance alliance assembled at 1030.
