FAR5I NOTES.
The Ontario Agricultural college
is good authority in matters agricul
tural, and it deolares that peas are
better and cheaper food for stock
than maize.
"When it is desirable to promote
the growth of a horse's hoofs the
best method is to keep them frequent
ly wet Tho simplo application of
water is all that is necessary.
Major Brooke says, in the Rural
Ilorne, that more cherries, berries,
peaches and grapes and less pie, cake
and meat would lessen pain, prolong
life, and greatly increase the mental
and physical vigor of the race.
Comfort is the first essential of
growth, development and of milk
yield. A cow which is chilled and
half-starved is in no condition to do
well as a milker, and if she gives no
decent return of this milk what is she
kept for?
Sweet skim milk i3 worth to feed,
in conuection with other food, to a
good breed of pigs, 1 cent a quart.
Two quarts of milk, Prof. Boberts
says, drawn from the cow by the calf,
are worth three quarts fed to it from
a paiL
It is noticeable that farmers are
less inclined to co-operate in doing
work or in providing a supply of
food than tho early settlers of the
country were. Thero has been a sen
sible decline in what was called
"neighborly kindness."
"Thou," the proposed new pronoun,
(impersonal, singular number) is be
ing taught in the public schools, the
Lewiston, Me., Journal says.

A correspondent of the Rural Kew
Yorker asks: "Does it affect the
quality of milk a cow will give if con
versation is carried on between milk
ers when milking?" We do not
think there is any doubt about it
especially when the dairy is made up
of young cows. We would not have
a loud-talking milker in the stable.
We remember, some years ago a dai
ryman to assert at a meetiug of a
farmers' club, that he had dis
charged a man because he would
talk and interrupt tho milking
in his dairy, and that in three days
the increase in milk was equal to the
man's wages. Such are important
facts, if established.
