MANH00DfeCREST0RED They have been counted and there are 10.000,000 voters in the United States. Think o it 10,000,000 count 'em. Assuming an average vot ing day to have been ten hours long, there was 1,000,000 ballots an hour dropping into tho ballot-boxes at something like 30,000 polling places. Nearly 17,000 ballots every minute all day long. Form these 10,000,000 voters into a torchlight procession and what a parade they would make! March them in double file, with six feet between them, and we should have a procession from New York to San Francisco and back to Chicago again. Form these into an army of defense and they would make a solid wall four men deep from Augusta, aIq., io Savannah, Ga. Modern railways are about to in vade the Holy Laud in several direc tions. Turkish capitalists have ob tained concessions and will build lines immediately from Alexandria to Aleppo, along the bank of the Eu phrates, and cvcntnally to Damascus. The aim is to connect the Syrian sea with tho river Euphrates, one of the most important highways of Asiatic trado. In the iort of Liverpool there are now laid up -Ll steam vessels, repre senting a tonnago of 09,000 tons, as against 10, representing a tonnage of 18,000 tons, at the corresponding pe riod of last year, thus showing an in crease of 3 steamers and 51,000 ton nage laid up in these docks. The distress among the Liverpool seamen and dock laborers is very acute. The first and only auger ever man ufactured that will boro a square holo is now in the shops of tho Cleve land Machine company. This auger bores a two-inch square hole, the size used in ordinary frame buildings and barns, but they can be made on the same principle to bore square holes of any sizo. PILES! PILES! PILES!
