Tha neces sary funds to relievo the exposition lrom its serious and nressinr? nnan- cial embarrassments do not annear to 1 be forthcoming. It is not likely from au appearances mat the people 01 this city -will supply the deficient $250,000 required to pay u indebtedness al ready incurred. There is an evident want of confidenco in the present di rectors of the institution that mili tates against the hope of supplies from that quarter, even it the money were at hand. There is a desire on the part of many of the friends of the exposition, and particularly the United States and state commission ers, to appeal to congross for further aid, and many persons are disposed to throw the entire burden of the main tenance of the exposition on the gen eral government Chicago, Jan. 29. A prominent member of the fenian brotherhood is authority for the statement that at a meeting of Irish-Americans here tllis evening, the resolntion intro duced in the United states senate by Senator Bayard was denounced, and that Irish supporters of Congress man Cobb, of Indiana, were requested to show their appreciation of his con duct upon his return home. It was declared that at the meeting S7,000 were subscribed to be employed as a skirmishing f uud against England, Mexico, Jan. 29. The administra tion of Gen. Diaz ha3 succeeded in raising $3000,000, which has been set aside for transmission to "Washington, as part payment of the United State3 debt This action has excited con siderable comment in English com mercial circles.
