Iyei ticideon prevph tiiitt . MANHOOD VpE TIIE PB0BLKI OF EGGS. Hie production of eggs is a thing desired by every person keeping hens. Ordinarily every hen -will lay a cer tain nnnitier of eggs in the year, but with proper food and care she will lay more, than if neglected, and forced to search for her own living. It has alreadv been demnnRtmtWI that the hen is an egg machine, and capauio oi uetng worked to a greater or less degreo of production by the food and caro she receives. There is a certain amount of vitality in her organism, and may be expanded in one or two years, by running the egg machine at full speed, that is by a forcing process, or ths vital forces may be utilized for several years by maintaining a natural condition of the organs of production. The production of eggs is a great drain on the hen. During laying time one and a half to two ounces of highly concentrated food, is scatter ed through the tissues almose evory day. This is about one-half of the whole amount of solid food taken in to the stomach daily, for nourishment and snpplying tho wastes. A desirable diet for laying hens must consist of grain in variety, veg etables, flesh. Wheat, oats, buck wheat, barloy and corn constitute the best for eggi, flesh and muscle.
