A Nautical Fraud.
The gulf stream exists very largely
in school geographies. It is my can
did belief that not one captain in a
thousand can tell when he is in it
without consulting his charts. All
tho wonderful things that we learned
about in school, simmer down n liltlo
when wo actually see them. That
there is" such a thing as tho gulf
stream, and that it has great influ
ence upon the climate of the land
adjacent to it, no one can doubt, but
it is not a great river of warm water,
as they used to teach us. I have
been on it for three days in a blind
ing snow storm, with the weather so
cold it would freeze your nose if you
poked it out of the cabin door. It is
a trifle warmer than the rest of the
ocean, and it is full of floating sea
weed, and the weed is no good, and
that's about the amount of the gulf
stream. In winter thero is not heat
enough to melt a cake of ice. and in
summer it's about as warm as board
ing house coffee. Ex.
Independence, Or., Not. 30. Fire
broke out at 9 o'clock this morning in
the saloon building occupied by C.
Mayhew, on the east side of Main
street, and the building was soon
trapped in flames, which spread to
adjoining buildings, destroying the
millinery store owned by Mrs. F.
Winnull, W. P. Conoway's hardware
store, Butler's opera house, and two
buildings owned by Mr. George
Whittaker, occupied "by S. TV. Allen,
dealor in furnituro, and Mr. A. O.
Sweet, attorney. Nearly all the con
tents of tho buildings were saved, but
somewhat badly damaged. The West
Side office and another building,
owned by Mr. "Whitaker, were only
saved after the untiring efforts of tho
department, assisted by citizens. Con
siderable damage was done in moving
goods out of the buildings on tho
west side of the street which did not
take fire. The loss is roughly esti
mated at about SIO.OOO. No insur
ance. It is not known how the fire
originated.
PILES! PILES! PILES!
A SURE CURE FOUxND AT LAST!
HO ONE NEED SUFFER.
A sure' cure for Blind, Bleeding'
Itching and Ulcerated Piles has been
discovered by Dr. "Williams (an Indi
an Remedy,) called Dr. William's In
dian Pile Ointment. A single box has
cured tho worst chronic cases of 25
or 30 years standing. No one need
suffer five minutes after applying this
wonderful soothing medicine. Lotions
instruments and electuaries do more
harm than good. William's Indian
Pile Ointment absorbs the tumors,
allays the intense itching, (particular
ly at night after getting warm in bed,)
acts as a poultice, gives instant relief,
and is prepared only for Piles, itching
of the private parts, and for nothing
else.
Read what the Hon. J. M. Coflinber-
ry of Clevelaud says about Dr. Wil
liam's Indian Pile Ointment: I have
used scores of Pile Cures, and it af
fords me pleasure to say that I havo
never found anything which gave
such immediate and permanent relief
as Dr. William's Indian Ointment.
Hon. Judge W. P. Coons, Maysvillo,
Ky., says: "I have suffered for years
with itching piles, and havo used
many remedies. I have used Dr. Wil
liam's Indian Pile Ointment and been
cured while every other remedy has
failed." For sale by all druggists and
mailed on receipt of price, S1.00.

Ills Success
Financially and socially are largely due
to his excellent health. If his system
were clogged and feverish, no doubt he
would fail as so many others do. Uut
why not enjoy good health when one
can please the palate at the same time?
Svrup of Figs is not only pleasant to
the taste, It also cleanses the system
thoroughly, yet painlessly; it Is harm
