The Tribune says: The situation ss to the presi dency remains nnchangefl. The Re publican national committee farc con fident that the vote of New York was for Blaine, and have taken steps to have the true vote declared. The boards of county canvassers meet to morrow to count the vote in each county. An official statement will be sent io the secretary of state, on whose call the state board of canvass ers will meet, some time this month, to declatc the vote of the stale as shown by the returns from the conn ties. Blaine has received many tele grams from all parts of the conntry expressing the belief that he has been elected. The Republican plurality in Illi nois was over 22,000. In Winconsm tho Republicans have good majority in both branches of the legislature. Virginia is claimed by the Republic ans, and it is charged that the Demo crats nsed tissue ballots. Messrs. Jones, Elkins, Hobart and Clarkson, of the Republican national committee, with telegraph operators and some of tho attaches of the committee, spent most of the day yesterday at the Republican national headquarters. The situation is unchanged since the proclamation was issued by tho committee on Saturday night, buta much firmer tone is perceptible in tho statements of members of tho committee that they are positive the ballots and returns will both bo fa vorable to Blaine, and that tho fact will bo securely established to-morrow. It is evident the committee has received information which is consid ered trustworthy, and tending to show that the electoral vote of New York belongs, by choice of the peo ple, to Blaine. Believing this, they are leaving no effort unspared to secure a proper official declaration of the result A point in favor of the Republican claim, which has escaped public attention, was made yesterday by Secretary Vrooman, of the state committee, during a call at national headquarters. It was that tho Dem ocrats make no charge of fraud of any kind against the Republicans, either in the matter of ballots, of voters, of voting, or of making re turns. Their only cry is that the Re publicans are trying to steal the state. On the other hand, the Dem ocrats are squarely charged with ille gal voting, fraudulent count and fraudulent returns, on tho face of which they fraudulently claim the state, without so much as a denial of the frauds perpetrated. The Republican situation is greatly and steadily improved since Saturday morning, but for obvious reasons de tails are not and cannot be given to the public, since that would be to ad vertise to tho enemy the course to be pursued to-morrow. The national committee has received hundreds of dispatches during the last three days, encouraging them to persist m their determination to secure a fair count. A sample of these dispatches is the following from Senator Henderson of Missouri, and a number of prominent citizens and business men of St. Leuis: St. Louis, Nov. 9. Hon. B. F. Jones, Chairman of the Republican National Committee The Republicans of Missouri ask only that the result be ascertained and declared, and we have full faith that the Republicans of New York will not be deterred in discharging their duty by any false claims of the Democracy. Demand an honest count, and the people of tho west will sustain the result. Several delegates from various parts of the state called yesterday at head quarters to ascertainjif they can learn what has been learned by the com mittee and send the fact3 to their re spective localities. They describe tho feeling in their neighborhoods as be ing fully as intense as in this city. Letters and telegrams have been received corroborating statements heretofore made, that votes for Butler and St John electors had not been counted for them, and presumably had been counted for the Cleveland electors. Tho samo thing, it is al leged, has been done in this and ad joining counties, uareiui inquiry will be made into this matter by tho committee. The 'Tribune's editorial says: "We sec no occasion to change our opinion thus far maintained, that only an offi cial count can determine the result of the election in this state, and that it is likely thero is a small plurality for Blame and Logan. The Democrats themselves, in spito of the idle vapor ing of their newspapers, which started in the night after the election with claims of 60,000 plurality and have since dropped to about 1,000, only now count on a little less than 450 in the state. This, errors already dis covered, more than wipe out. The Defrauded Ladle. Queen Yictoria was recently swin dled out of. nfteen pounds by a beg garlv scoundrel who pretended to want it for a charitable purpose. But many other women have been robbed of health by overwork and underpay. Enfeebled and languid women with shattered nerves find strength and comfort in Browns Iron Bitters. Mrs. Amanda Layson, Crawfordville, Ind., writes, I used Brown's Iron Bit ters for general ill health, with good results." It cures dyspepsia, weak ness and malaria. Kelly Will Contest Grace's election. jnew xokk, iiov. iu. xne ngnt or William R. Grace to take the mayor's chair on January i, iboo, is certainly to be contested on the ground that he has not been legally naturalized as a citizen of the United States, but it has not been positively decided what course shall be adopted to prevent Grace from entering upon the mayor altv. It is said that Grant s friends prefer an injunction on the board of Aldermen, sitting as a board of super visors and county canvassers, to pro- vent that body from giving a certifi cate to Grace, bnt this method, it is thought, would be less effective than to proceed by quo warranto, and thus make Grace show by what right he takes his seat as mayor, when he is not a citizen of the United States. Counsel of Alderman Grant have been in consultation during tho day, bnt arrived at no positive conclusion as to tho legal course which is to be pursued. They are to meet again this evening, so as to agree that if in junction proceedings are tobe served on tne uoara oi supervisors tne proper application is to be made be fore the supreme court, in time to htivo papers served upon the members of the board before tho canvass of votes for mayor 3hall have been passed. West Virginia. Huntin'gton, Nov. 9. Enthusiasm over tho presumed election of Cleve land last night was intense. Shouts and rebel yells for Jeff Davis and the southern confederacy were frequent and urolonged. Lx-reuels are jubi lant over tho returns, and are insult ing to Republicans in the fullest meauing or the term, iuock sales of negroes are frequent in the resorts of the bummer element o tne party, and colored men, in consequence, are on the verge of rebellion against this in famous treatment. A disturbance is feared here, should these results of tho rebel element be continued lon ger, but it is hoped that their bettor sense may prevail. A general demon stration will take place Tuesday even ing next, by the enthusiasteiabove mentioned, at which time it.isassert ed they will paint the city in all col ors of tho rainbow. The nottbern element of the Democratic party here is as bitter and venomous afrthe. rebel element. ' V" No Chance for Fraud. Watebtowk. N. Y., Nov.10. Attor ney General O'Brien, one of the slate canvassing board, in a speeoh to Dem ocrats here, said: "I have no fear that tho wishes or judgment of the people, expressed at tho ballot box, will be falsified or defeated. No party or set of men can steal the electoral vote of the Empire state. The laws of the state in regard to elections and tho counting of votes are too perfect to admit of frauds. The people of New York are too much in earnest to tolerate fraud, even if it were possi ble. The votes given by tho people of this state have, and no doubt will be, honestly counted, and the result will be truthfully declared." Ml Confident of Blaine's Election. San Francisco, Nov. 10. D. O. Mills telegraphed from New York to a friend in this city, this evening, that in one preoinot in New York a mistake in the reckoning of 1500 in favor of Blame had been discovered, and in answer to an inquiry to-night, U. l'. Huntington telegraphed that ne had no doubt of Blaine's election. These dispatches have given Repub hcans here renewed hope. And the .Democrats are correspondingly de pressed, tnougn tuey are still nrm in tne faith that Cleveland is elected, The streets are quiet to-night. New York, Nov. 10. One of the best informed Republican editors now watching affairs in this city, Bays: "The lengthening prospeot before tho public, offered, by the struggle over the plurality claimed by one and denied by the other, and certain to neither, is one which can only be measured by the capacity of 300 or 400 lawyers, who will bo watching each other on Tuesday, to cause de lay. Tho canvass, instead of being completed that day in contested conn ties, will only be begun. It is slow work, at the best, to take up the tally sheets of election, district bv district Nothing but some sudden discovery, one way or tho other, which will set tle the matter past cavil, seems likely to bring a speedy end. Cairo, Nov. 10. Rumors of the fall of Khartoum and death of Gen eral Gordon are now arriving by way of Massowah. A committeo of Khar toum merchants residing here is be ing formed to obtam recompense from the Egyptian government for tneir losses of property, incurred through the rebellion. San Francisco.
