Phillips of Philadelphia, at a Mpn- treai iiotel, fiom an overdose oi aijji talis, a few days ago, has provoked considerable inquiry as to the nature of. that most interesting of all pois ons. The popular idea that there is no poison so subtle that its presence in tho body of its victim cannot be detected after death, is entirely erro neous, and the active principle of dig italis (digitaline) is one of the most striking instances of a deadly poison which leaves no trace behind it: One half grain of this terrible drug would be sufficient to instantly kill a strong man, and no scientific research, how ever prompt, would be able to find a trace of it afterward. In 186i Dr. De la Pommeraisof Paris, was tried for murdering his mistress. He had given her a dose of digitaline, but a post-mortem exami nation failed to discover any traces of the subtle drug, although the most celebrated physicians made examina tions. The most that could be done was to take portions of the contents of the stomach and teed it to animals, which at once exhibited all the symp toms of digitaline poisoning. This was, of course, but presumptive evi dence, as it was supposed in advanco that the woman had been murdered by the drug. "Without such a basis the doctors could havo discovered nothing to suggest the presence of digitaline. The drug kills by "teu tonizing' tho heart muscles and is almost instantaneous in its action. There are several other vegetable poisons equally impossible to detect, mucaria, duboisra and ocentiao, for instance. PILES! PILES! PILES! A SURE CD HE FOUND AT. LAST! NO ONE NEED SUFFER. A sure cure for Blind, Bleeding' Itching and Ulcerated Piles has been discovered by Dr. Williams (an Indi an Bemedy,) called Dr. William's In dian Pile Ointment. A single box has cured tho worst chronic cases of 25 or 30 years standing. No ono need, suffer five minutes after applying this wonderful soothing medicine. Lotions instruments and electuaries do moro harm than good. William's Indian Pile Ointment absorbs the tumors, allays the intenso itching, (particular ly at night after getting warm in bed,) acts as a poultice, gives instant relief, and is prepared only for Piles, itching of the private parts, and for nothing else. Bead what the Hon. J. M. Coffinber ry of Clovelaud sajs about Dr. Wil liam's Indian Pile Ointment: I have used scores of Pilo Cures, and it af fords me pleasure to say that I havo never found anything which gave such immediate and. permanent relief as Dr. William's Indian Ointment Hon. Judge W. P. Coons, Maysville, Ky., says: "I havo suffered for years with itching piles, and havo used many remedies. I have used Dr. Wil liam's Indian Pile Ointment and been cured while every other remedy has failed." For sale by all druggists and mailed on receipt of price, $1.00. Seabuet k Jorasorr, Gentlemen: Like most of my profession, 1 am cautious about pinning my faith to any new medicine or curativo agent. But your BENSON'S CAPCINE POROUS PLASTER has broken through the barriers and won its way to my good opinion. My attention was first called to it some eight months ago by a patient of mino Although 1 was well ac quainted with tho superior excollenco of your other piaster and antiseptic dressing, made especially for tho profossion, tho Benson's was comparatively now to mo. I had heard, however, of its morits as a romody, in cases ofLamoBack, Local Rhoumatism, Neural gia. Congestion of tho Bronchial Tubes and Lungs. Dyspepsia, Torpid Liver and tho like affections, and havo sinco bosun to experi ment with it personally. I find BENSON'S CAPCINE PLASTER an exceptionally clean ly plaster to use. and rapid in its action. Many tests of its qualities, mado in my own family and among my patients have convinc ed mo that thero is no single articlo so valu able for popular uso, nor so helpful in tho diseases I have named. Should you desiro to do so, you may uso my namo to that effect. Vory truly yours, H: H.KANE, A. M..M.D. Tho genuine havo tho word CAPCINE cut in the center. Prico 25 cents.
