How China Got Its -fame."
Upwards of 1,100 years before Christ
tho Chinese were a people ruled by a
dynasty of kings, of wlicm, like the
Pharaohs of old, there is no clear
history, and not until tho "Chow"
dynasty B. C. 1113. is thero any clear
history of the main Chinese state-0.
The Chinese take their history back
to the time or Koah. This very an
cient empire has borne in its time
many names, for it was tho custom
neu a new dynasty ascended the
'hrone to give another name to the
mpire, as Hai-que, Charu-qne. Han
qn etc., according to tho name of
ihe ruling monarch. The true name
is said to be Chum-que, 'the center
kingdom of tho world." This term
was bv usago corrupted to Chi-que,
and from this word the Portuguese
gave it the namo of China. China
proper consists of eighteen provinces,
containing 250,000,000 of people.
When the British gunboat Wasj,
was lost last month, with all save six
on board, she was making for Lough
Foyle to take tho sheriff and bailiffs
to instrahull to evict the inhabitants.
The total rental of this speck in the
ocean is 18. It is a small island on
the seaboard of Donegal, and is well
known as the scene of the wreck of
the Iris some few years back, when
the hardy islanders", at great risk of
life and limb, succeeded in rescuing
tho passengers and crew of the ill
fated steamer. The extreme limit of
the islet is three miles and the breadth
one and a half miles. It is distant
from the mainland about nine miles,
and of all the desolate specks of land
it is the most uninviting. Sixteen
families, with the lighthouse keeper,
make up the entire population.
Thero is no arable land, and tho sur
face of tho ground is formed of rocks.
Some of the tenants have never paid
any rent, and others are from ten to
fifteen years in arears. A precarious
livelihood is earned at fishing during
the summer months, but owing to
the stormy and dangerous nature of
the coast in the winter, the islanders
go to the mainland until the spring,
as there is no fuel to be obtained on
the islet. There is only one landing
place, and it requires skill and care
to run into it in safety. So the at
tempt to collect some S90 has cost
the British navy thousands of pounds
and fifty-two lives.
PILES! PILES! PILES!
A SURE CUKE FOILND AT LAST!
MO ONE NEED SUFFER.
A sure cure for Blind, Bleeding'
Itching and Ulcerated Piles has been
discovered by Dr. Williams (an Indi
an Bemedy,) called Dr. William's In
dian Pile Ointment. A single box has
cured the worst chronic cases of 23
or 30 years standing. Xo one need
suffer five minutes after applying this
wonderful soothing medicine. Lotions
instruments and electuaries do more
harm than good. William's Indian
Pile Ointment absorbs the tumors,
allays the intense itching, (particular
ly at night after getting warm in bed,)
acts as a poultice, gives instant relief,
and is prepared only for Piles, itching
of the private parts, and for nothing
else.
Bead what the Hon. J. M. Coffinber
ry of Cleveland says about Dr. Wil
Ham's Indian Pile Ointment: I have
used scores of Pile Cures, and it af
fords me pleasure to say that I have
ztever found anything which gave
such immediate and permanent relief
as Dr. William's Indian Ointment.
Hon. Judge W. P. Coons, Maysville,
Ivy., says: "I have suffered for years
with itching piles, and have used
many remedies. I have used Dr. Wil
liam's Indian Pile Ointment and been
cured while every other remedy has
failed." For sale by all druggists and
mailed on receipt of price, S1.00.

Messrs. Seabuet & Jonssov,
Gentlemen: Liko mot of my profession, I

BENSON'S CAPCINE POROUS PLASTER
has broken through tho barriers and won its
way to my good opinion. My attention was

especially for tho profession, tho Benson's
was comparatively now to mo. I had heard,
however, of its merits as a remedy, in cases
of Lamo Back, Local Rheumatism, Neural
gia. Congestion of tho Bronchial Tubes and
Lung3. Dyspepsia, Torpid Liver and tho like
affections, and havo sinco begun to experi
