Potato Experiment.
Five years ngo F. E. Allen, of
Knappa, saved a ripe boll taken from
a Garnet Chili potato vine. The fol
lowing spring he planted the boll en
tire in one hill. Numerous young
shoots came up in a close bunch
fromit These shoots were trans
planted singly and cultivated. The
yield in the number of potatoes
was fair, but in size they were not
much larger than peas, but what was
strange there appeared to be three
varieties, and such proved to be the
case on the second year of cultiva
tion. 1st, a long, slim, smooth,
crooked potato of a whitish yellow
color, and tapering at the ends. 2nd,
a white variety, roundish, surface in
clined to roughness, with eyes deep
indented. 3rd, a tuber very similar
in shape to the Garnet Chili, but of a
lighter red color with strips of min
ute flecking of white. The second
season of cultivation produced much
larger Jpotatoes than the first, and
the third larger than the second.
The first and second turned out to
be early varieties, the third late, a
prolific bearer, with stalk tall branch
ing into several parts, growing and
remaining green until late in the
season, and not inclined to blight
easily.
New York, Sept. 13. A special
from Ottawa says: The appearance
of Eiel, theUed River insurrectionist
of 1870, in Northwest territory, is
causing considerable uneasiness
among the settlers, who regard his
presence there as a renewal of the
old feelings of hostility among the
Indians and half-breeds toward the
white people. In addressing a num
ber of his followers he said the time
had come when the Indian question
must be settled, and justice done.
He is a perfect god among the In
dians, and his influence, it is feared,
may be exercised in inciting them to
rebellion.
PILES! PILES! PILES!
A SURE CURE FOUSDAT LAST!
NO ONE NEED SUFFER.
A sure cure for Blind, Bleeding-
Itching and "Ulcerated Piles has been
discovered by Dr. Williams (an Indi
an Remedy, called Dr. William's In
dian jtuo uinimenc. &. single uo. uus
cured the worst chronic cases of 25
or 30 years standing. No one need
suffer five minutes after applying this
wonderful soothing medicine. Lotions
instruments and electuaries do more
harm than good. William's Indian
Pile Ointment absorbs the tumors,
allays the intense itchinjr. (particular
ly at night after getting warm in bed,)
acts as a poultice, gives instant relief,
and is prepared only for Piles, itching
of the private parts, and for nothing
else.
Read what the Hon. J. 3L CofEnber-
ry of Cleveland says about Dr. Wil
liam's Indian Pile Ointment: I have
used scores of Pile Cures, and it af
fords me pleasure to say that I have
never found anything which gave
such immediate and permanent relief
as JLr. William's Indian Ointment.
Hon. Judge W. P. Coons, Maysville,
Ky., says: "I havo suffered for years
with itching piles, and have used
many remedies. I have used Dr. Wil
liam s Indian Pile Ointment and been
cured while every other remedy has
failed." For sale by all druggists and
mailed on receipt of price, 1.00.
