NOW (fe 1 -i :v ELECTRICN The Travels of n Little Steamer. m A remarkable feat is now being car ried out by a young Englishman rep resenting a party of English capi talists who havo acquired a large block of land from the British Colum bia government in the exquisitely beautiful lower Kootenai valley, lying just over the northern confines of Idaho, where the international bound ary line senarates tho -waters of tho Pend d'Oreille lako and Kootenai river. This pass, traversed by a nar row Indian trail, which winds through the almost impenetrable -forests that clothe this great spur of the xiocky mountains known as tne Clarke's fork range, has never been passed by a wacon. and now a steamer, the hull built of teak in one piece, is to be spirited across this mountain barrier for a distance of forty miles. A large force of Indians belonging to the Kootenai tribe, a race that has as yet remained perfectly untoucnea oy civilization and who have never seen a white woman, have been engaged, together with ten or twelve vhite men, to help in the work. The little steamer has seen much travel. Built last year on the banks of the placid Dee, that washes the Boman walls of beautiful Chester, one of England's oldest cities, she made "a summer trip to the rock-bound coast of Norway, whoro her owner explored some of the most inaccessible fiords of that picturesque coast, bent on salmon fishing and bear hunting. Brought back to Eng land, she left Liverpool safely stowed away on the deck of the Polynesia, one of the ocean leviathans, Slay 21st Landed at Montreal, she was placed on deck of one of the large propellers running from that point to the west em extremity of the great lakes, Du luth, when, after passing through some 150 locks that make navigation through the long chain of great lakes possible, and after a narrow es cape from being wrecked on a hidden rock, on which the propeller struck one dark night heavily, she safely reached tho latter port, when she was immediately placed on a flat car, on which, after being placed in bond to enable her to pa3S through the United States, she began her long transcontinental journey of 1,500 miles over the Northern Pacific line to Sand point, or Lake Pend d'Oreille.
